How About We Take The Let It Sink Movement To A New Level
by pledging to NOT post any flamers about Mrs. Clinton? How about we say if it isn't an article with a link we don't "go there"? If it's a new poll or an article saying the opponent is sinking or can't win then they are OK, but no more "Hillary Is A Monster" threads which I too have been guilty of now and then. I like the idea of getting a little, no a LOT more civil around here.

I also pledge to ignore any posters who use nasty arguments in GDP. If we can't be civil, we don't deserve to win.

16. Flamers? by what defination, cuz her supporters and I may have a different view of what it means
Outrageous statement based purely on personal opinion?

Of

Really troubling FACTS backed up with links and well thought out connecting of dots?

Have noticed both often get pretty hot, but one is actually constructive to healthy debate and facing facts.

5. K&R
The "Hillary is a monster" or "Obama is evil" threads are too much, and quickly go on my hidden thread list, as well as the poster on ignore. GD P has been so much more civil for me lately.

14. Yup, I tried a thread like this, but then I think her Phone ad came out the next day.
There is always something that happens that inflames myself and other Obama supporters. What I think would be more effective is if we try not to demean DUers on the other side. Let's stop the childish name calling like Hillbots and just call them HRC, Clinton, or Hillary supporters.

9. See my sig line
I'm trying to stay positive about Senator Clinton. Some of the stuff her campaign has done is hard to defend, but I'd still rather have her as President than this man:

I continue to refrain from harshly posting about Senator Obama. And I do not defend everything that Hillary says or does. I believe in honest discussions. This would really help the climate around here if more of us followed suit from all sides.

15. Works for me...I;'ve been trying to stick to a 'don't bother' policy...
and relate my comments to what I think a campaign issue would say about the other person as President. Thus I don't write 'I hate Hillary' threads, but I might question whether her campaign finance situation says something about her ability to manage the federal budget.

21. yea I was all over that one too gate
I miss being able to be a dumbass and just ask a friggin question without being told what I already knew-that I am a dumbass and that's why I asked the question in the first place. You used to be able to get information like that around here. For instance; a couple of weeks ago I asked why I should be concerned with the FISA thing or something to that effect and was immediately attacked by the holier-than-thou crowd...a few of the same ones that landed on my ignore list.

26. DU has been an invaluable resource for me --
I've asked some REALLY dumb questions and received informative, educational and OBJECTIVE responses.

Now it seems as though when I ask a question, often people assume I have an agenda which is to undermine their candidate :eyes:
Not so! I'm really just uninformed! :7

The thread on beating McCain -- great! All coming together with a common goal and boy, some VERY intelligent suggestions and points.

Sorry about your FISA waterboarding -- there ARE ways to parlay info without being snarky and insulting, and I'm hoping we'll return to those kinder, gentler days VERY soon.

:hi:

28. I feel the same way
I have been able to come here TO UNDERSTAND things a lot over these past almost 8 years now for me (oustemnow used to be my screename). I actually was the guy that outed Rush Limbaugh as a fat junkie some years back-something I'm quite proud of...ironically the reason I did it? He was going off on Hillary Clinton every single day and he pissed me off

20. I think there should be a movement of DU volunteers...
...that agrees to use ONE of their three posts per day---to post the "Let It Sink" reminder.

It's obvious that there is a concerted effort to post anti-Obama smears--and the only
way to fight it is with a positive "equal and opposite" reaction.

25. this will become easier and easier
as she becomes less and less likely to win and no longer a threat to Obama and Democratic Party unity.

We need to keep in mind that she will soon only be back in her old job as Senator. Not trying to sound mean, but this is the best thing that can happen to the party going into the general election.

I like seeing more and more of these threads... it's a good sign of the times!

I think anyone supporting Sen.Obama ought to at least be paying
actual attention to what he's talking about!

Seek common ground. Otherwise.. what's the point?

I don't think they have problems with different opinions. It's just that all the negativity and cynical attacks are getting to people. Both candidates and their supporters deserve it to be treated with respect. One aspect of that is to put an end to the dehumanization of either candidate by referring to them as "The Monster" or "Hillary Clinton's opponent".

34. Yes. Because really, Hillary is throwing herself under the bus and needs no help from us.. At
this point, it isn't hard to find numerous articles by credible journalists who report the truth about her campaign and her chances.

I think after every single one of us has posted a dozen times why we think Hillary needs to "drop out", or why she is "finished", its probably a moot point :-)

Still, this will be a tall order. But its something to strive for.. we'll try to help each other elevate the discourse.

Great post !

38. He convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still
I'm guilty

I'm cranky

I'm reacting to filthy, incendiary, Rovian style crap I see everywhere, in concert with media complicity, destroying yet another candidate for being mildly more progressive and grass roots, than the Military Industrial Complex would like.

Since RFK they don't have to shoot them anymore... they just assassinate their character in the press that they control

Hell, they've been resurrecting and re-assassinating JFK for decades now.

I am NOT all THAT PRO-Obama... but for the moment, his enemies are MY enemies.

I support Obama because I LOATHE corporatism and I judge Clinton by her actions, not her rhetoric.

I can't make myself call her "Hillary"... it's like THAT.

sorry

In February '09 I'll be on Obama like white on rice... he's not going to skate

I do think he's up to the task
