Obama campaigns comment on "Misspoke"

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Obama_camp_scoffs_at_claim_Clinton_0324.html

"Rival Democrat Barack Obama's campaign quickly scoffed at the attempt to dismiss the fib, noting that the mistaken wording was included in the text of Clinton's speech.

“Senator Clinton said that a planned welcoming ceremony was cancelled because they needed to avoid sniper fire, but news footage shows that she was met by a small child who read her a poem. Contrary to the latest spin from the Clinton campaign, when you make a false claim that's in your prepared remarks, it's not misspeaking, it's misleading, and it's part of a troubling pattern of Senator Clinton inflating her foreign policy experience,” Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said in an e-mail."

snip
"Getting to what was disputed -- namely that Clinton and crew didn't have to sprint from their plane with bullets whizzing by -- Wolfson said, "It is possible in the most recent instance that she discussed this that she misspoke." He accused the Obama camp of making hay out of the issue out of desperation."

1. Hillary Clinton lied, got caught, and is now trying to backpedal.
End of story.

19. she had a tell when she said it. right at the start, she said "uh" and
paused before she really got into it and it was clear to me she was pausing to organize the lie, deciding she was going to do it and then thinking quickly what to say. She had an expression on her face as well that telegraphed it, a sort of briefly blank look. Kids do that when they lie. (In her defense, the lack of skill in showing herself tells me that she doesn't ball faced lie that bluntly often. there was no skill in concealment when she did this. Her lies probably are more like ours, small and well delivered. This was so blatant, that I think it shows on her face. Watch it and see if you don't agree.)

The second runner accuses the leader of desperate attacks. That only makes sense in Wolfson's up-is-down world.

3. Well, fair game. This isn't something a surrogate said--these are
her words--she needs to fully account for why she "misspoke", before the American people. It's a matter of honesty--what else is she padding on her resume?

32. Well, look where the campaign is, after having massive polling leads coming into 2008
Iraq war vote didn't demonstrate any great intelligence.

Kyl-Lieberman ditto.

Support for flag burning amendment ditto.

At a miminum, political positioning seems to override all.

the military and the Secret Service weren't going to let her and Chelsea be exposed to danger.

6. Lies & Liars
isn't that what took us into a needless war in Iraq? Do we need more of the same? If she would lie about this, what other situations would she easily lie for?

Do you want to take that chance?

which are much more pernicious than a misstatement about an historic trip into a war zone.

17. This reminds me of the Gore/James Lee Witt brouhaha in 2000
Obviously, when someone's schedule is 11,000 pages long, people are going to remember one event and conflate it with another, as in this example (most interesting are the quotes by Cheney!) Gore, too, was described as a "chronic liar" during that whole campaign.

~Bush also criticized Gore for saying, during Tuesday night's debate, that he visited disaster sites in Texas with federal emergency management chief James Lee Witt.

"It's a pattern of just saying whatever it takes to win," Bush said. Asked whether the discrepancy was a big deal, he said "There's a pattern of exaggerations and stretches to try to win votes, and it says something about leadership."

Gore's campaign said Wednesday he did get a briefing from Federal Emergency Management Agency officials in Houston, but the vice president was there for a fund-raiser and Witt was not there. But he and Witt have toured many disaster scenes together, Gore said, and aides portrayed the comments as a trivial mistake.

Bush's running mate, former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney, said he was "puzzled and saddened to learn" that Gore had misrepresented his actions during the 1998 wildfires in Texas.
"Al Gore has described these presidential debates as a job interview with the American people," Cheney said. "I've learned over the years that when somebody embellishes their resume in a job interview, you don't hire them."~

22. They are desperate and will do anything to destroy Hillary.
I can't understand why they are so violently bitter when they spend hours trying to convince us that Obama's nomination is inevitable. You'd think they would just kick back and revel in the hip historical ironies and cultural references as Hillary's campaign sank.

But, somehow, 45% of the Democrats still want to vote for her. It's about 47% for Obama. Surely, an insurmountable lead.

25. which event did HRC "conflate" this with? When was she "under sniper fire"?
Hey, if she really was under sniper fire somewhere other than Bosnia and had to run for her vehicle and skip the ceremonial greeting, there should be a story about it.

"Conflating" -- that's downright hilarious.

23. why the hell does being in danger make someone experienced in foreign policy?
man, some people are just idiots if they admire being at risk as if it counts for anything. lol, the fact that she would even think it beneficial to embellish on that is ridiculous. if mccain wasnt a pow he wouldnt even be the repub candidate. god this country is fucked up.

29. HRC has used up the allowed quota on "misspokes"
As well as her quota on her husband and advisors misspeaking/misrepresenting, etc..

Reminds me of my co-worker who would constantly yell/talk degrading to people at work...then over and over she would come around and apologize 24 hours later or a week later..after a while the apologies meant nothing. Fix you're fucking 'tude and just stop the initial behavior/temper tantrum. Much like HRC's "they misspoke" excuses. They no longer mean anything.

33. Obama lied about Rezko contributions
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 06:30 PM by Taxmyth
Which is worse, a former First Lady going visit US Troops in a war zone for morale purposes, facts you cannot dispute, whose recollection of the events aren't fully in synch with some news footage but any discrepancies in the stories are inconsequential and certainly not illegal

OR

The Obama - Rezko connection? Lot's of money changed hands here, going both ways and Senator Obama just can't seem to get those figures correct. One of them is on trial and the other is running for President.....think we should know a lot more about this story before handing the nomination to him?
