Been here from the begining
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 10:14 PM by robbedvoter
The stolen election(s), the anti-war protests, the 2004 primaries - :hi: Clarkies.
I am finding the place hard to stomach - and my stomach is far from delicate. I love debates, I don't mind the occasional rough and tumble - I didn't need to take breaks in 2004.
But when I see a bad replay of the Hunting of the President - in the very place that offered me a respite from the media for 8 years - it doesn't seem to be home for me here anymore.
I'll join the other Hillary supporters in the week long strike at midnight tonight - with a faint hope that something could make me stay when I come back...
Until then, I'll find places to express myself where my beliefs do not earn me the name of "troll" and earn me a place on blacklists (#1 was flatering, "B" list - not so much).
let the flames start - I have another 50 minutes to check them out.

2. I didn't know there was a strike on
not that I think I would participate. Actually, in my case it's not even necessary - I don't participate in GD-P very much anymore as it is. There's no point really. It's been taken over by a faction of DUers (many of them newly minted) and the signal-to-noise ratio is too low. It's nearly impossible to discuss anything of substance anymore.

3. Are each and every one of you going to do a swan song before you have your little pity party?
Its going to get old before to long, but then again, the grownups have work to do, you know, like trying to win back the whitehouse.

14. Not every Hillary supporter is a troll you know.
Including the one you are snarking at right now.

5. I agree with you. I too have been here since probably '01 or '02.
DU has never been like this before. I think the Obama people, with all their Hillary hate and nasty right-wing like rhetoric, have really damaged DU. I hope when the nomination is settled, they leave here and give us our home back!

11. Seriously, a strike?
Thank the Universe! The only reason I'm on GDP now is to give support to Hillary supporters and sharpen my teeth for the GE against the right wing, since I'm reading all their talking points on GDP from BO supporters. Very offensive right-wingish poster of Hillary on this site tonight, needless to mention the "I'm NOT voting for her" offensive sig pic. Civility is at an all-time low.

PM me, please, or direct me to a thread where I can learn the details.

17. Please stay.
Liberals by nature are tolerant of others personal beliefs, expressions, and actions. We do not attempt to squash dissent, but rather look for commonalities.

We attempt to learn from one another, encourage one another, and support each other despite our differences, not drive those with whom we disagree away.

This is something I have said to many Obama supporters, albeit few of them old-timers such as me, you, or others who have lived through other DU election cycles, but I think it's appropriate here and now.

There is so much to be angry about, and most of it has nothing to do with one another. This season will pass. We are in this together as we have been since 2001.

robbedvoter and all others who contemplate leaving even if only for a bit, please stay.

I am angry at the world
Intruding upon me
My half-full cup
Overfilled with the half that is empty.

I am angry that power and possessions
Tyranny of self-righteous purse
Proclaim that God favors US
When evidence supports a curse.

I am angry with the opportunist
Investing in inequity's tears
Fanning flames of ambiguity
Capitalizing reptilian fear.

I am angry that they stole Jesus
His love trampled in the justification stampede
Salvation is preemptive
In Judeo-Christianity

I am angry about righteous hypocrisy
Kill the enemy, kill the con
Don't kill what has not been born
All in the name of God.

I am angry with the predator
Hunting in my name
My country running roughshod
Feasting on impotent prey.

I am angry that war's so easy
We can always find the cash
More users for profit's pushers
More power for the fat cats.

I am angry about the synonym for greed
Democracy or else
Receive this blessing ready or not
Your credit reserves your place in hell

I am angry at the manifesto
More is better now
Waste is collateral damage
Feeding the golden cow.

I am angry about the claim of unity
Feudalism with a new splash
Haves manipulating have-nots
Victims of the inevitable clash

I am angry with our well-oiled leaders
For their failure to serve those most in need
We are only as strong as our weakest link
Did you hear me? We. That's w e we

I am angry that our schools have failed
Democracy unfulfilled
As with violence and convenient wars
Compassion must have will.

I am angry about failed optimism
Suffocating in the dull, oppressive trap
As I resist my anger
the tighter the world's grasp.

Anger without recourse
Like a train without a track
Love dies in the struggle,
if only to relax. - Michael Burgwin

There is much anger on DU, but it is wrong to direct it at one another.

I will miss you all. Stay. Please.
