Hillary: "I say a lot of things -- millions of words a day..."
Re. SniperFib from yesterday's editorial board meeting with the Philadelphia Daily News:

==This afternoon, in the session with Daily News editorial writers and reporters (and some Inquirer staffers as well) in a conference room at the Daily News and Inquirer Building, I asked the presidential candidate about these discrepancies and also showed her a copy of the photo -- at the top of this post -- of her on the tarmac that day.

She was quick to answer, jumping in before I was fully finished with the question. Here's here response in its entirety:

"Now let me tell you what I can remember, OK -- because what I was told was that we had to land a certain way and move quickly because of the threat of sniper fire. So I misspoke -- I didn't say that in my book or other times but if I said something that made it seem as though there was actual fire --
that's not what I was told. I was told we had to land a certain way, we had to have our bulletproof stuff on because of the threat of sniper fire. I was also told that the greeting ceremony had been moved away from the tarmac but that there was this 8-year-old girl and, I can't, I can't rush by her, I've got to at least greet her -- so I greeted her, I took her stuff and then I left, Now that's my memory of it.

I followed-up, noting that the episode has raised questions about her credibility on foreign policy. She responded:

"No, I went to 80 countries, you know. I gave contemporaneous accounts, I wrote about a lot of this in my book. you know, I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things -- millions of words a day -- so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement."==

1. How does a person innocently mix up a story of being shot at?
She should step aside before she embarrasses herself anymore.

37. She is starting to sound as inarticulate
as Bush. I am a bit surprised; I know I thought she must be smart, given what she did to prop up and then propel Bill Clinton out of his defeats and depression during the Arkansas years. But now that I am able to listen to her, and not just stories from others told about her abilities, I find her sorely lacking.

I am a 50 year old, independent voter, and a lawyer too. If I was assessing her as an opponent, I could kick her ass out of the arena. I've been up against marginally smart, technician style lawyers who compound their lack of talent by being legends in their own mind - achieving goals by sneakiness due to lack of ability. If the dems are looking for a consolation prize for her, it won't be SCOTUS, promise you that.

If I was up against Obama, I would have to be on my toes - he thinks. He learns; he processes what is coming at him, and he responds in a measured and well reasoned way, and fairly rapidly given the quality of his responses. He can negotiate, yet still understand the need to be extremely aggressive depending on the circumstances. I would find him a worthy opponent, and would take his arguments seriously. OTOH, I would lay out a trap for Clinton, let her ego fall right into it, and then just mop the floor with her. And with her puffing, padding and deceit, she'd make my job easy.

That said, I am still a bit surprised that she even made it this far into a campaign for president; of course, there is no way to explain Bush's achievements relative to his merits either.

12. See, it's the prepared speech that really nails her.
She wasn't just speaking extemporaneously. The remarks were prepared. She even had a canned line prepared in defense of Sinbad's recollection... "Well, he's a comedian."

Isn't it easy to flip this whole story on its head, using a Clintonian defense? What if she were the nominee, and this story came up in October? Good god, it would be so much more embarrassing.

Ready from Day One, eh?

26. She threw an eight-year-old under the bus!!!
I mean, she's blaming her blatant exaggerations on a Bosnian child? Isn't she just digging a deeper hole for herself, at this point?

And it would appear from the longer videos that after the sweet child read a poem to the First Lady, she paused for photo-ops with troops.

Hillary isn't even ready on day one to perform damage control. Unbelievable.

18. Millions of words a day? Holy crap... That's a lot of words... Let's do the math...
Figure it takes at least 1/4 of a second to say a word... that's 4 words a second...

Let's see... that's 24 hours in a day...

Making 24 X 60 minutes = 1,440 minutes

Which is in seconds 60 X 1440 = 86,400 seconds...

86,400 seconds x 4 words per second = oh... another whopper.

That's only 345,600 words in a day if she spoke non-stop at 4 words per second...

To speak millions of words a day... for the benefit of the doubt let's leave it at 2 million

She would need to say 23 words a second... Maybe that's why I don't understand... she's talking too fast.

33. I cringe when I hear it. Also when she nods her head.
Her campaign has gotten out of hand. I just wish she'd stop her roll down the mountain and find a way to exit gracefully.

My guess is that that won't happen until her donors (and those who give to BC's charitable work) tellher it's over. Bill will not want her campaign to drag down his life legacy work in Africa and elsewhere. She can go back to serve the people of New York as their Senator...

Or even the treat of sniper fire? I mean Sinbad sure, he can take his chances, but your teenage daughter? If her story had been completely true, what kind of judgment did she think she was showing? Not only is it a made of story, it's not a very well thought out made up story.

36. " I was told we had to land a certain way, ...
... we had to have our bulletproof stuff on because of the threat of sniper fire. I was also told that the greeting ceremony had been moved away from the tarmac..."

Well the greeting ceremony was certainly on the tarmac, as the pictures demonstrate. Chelsea doesn't appear to be wearing any body armor. Neither Clinton has a helmet on. As for the plane making an evasive approach, who can say?

So that leaves us with two possibilities.

Either no one told Hillary these things upon arrival, or she was told to wear protective gear and she blew it off.

So, she's either got extremely poor judgement, or she's lying again.

Politicians tend to know from word counts...Obama's 40-minute speech last week was 4,700 words, which basically tells you the average person doesn't say millions of words in a lifetime.

43. also, she talked about having to have her bulletproof stuff on
did anyone see any bulletproof anything on her, Chelsea, the Bosnian president on the tarmac with the 8 year old, the sound man following behind her, or anyone else getting off that flight? so what, she ignored the directive to put it on?! She willingly put her 16 year old daughter in danger? Heck, even some of the troops she met/posed with didn't have body armor on. And she admits she didn't write about the episode in her book that way yet when she verbally recounts it she had to duck and run straight into waiting vehicles instead of casually walking, smiling, stopping to chat. How could you possibly 'misremember' or 'misspeak' that poorly?

Puhleeeease!

46. Perhaps 'miscounted' her speeches as well. Said she had given
"...hundreds of thousands..." of speeches. If "hundreds of thousands' is only 200,000, that's 15 speeches every day for the entire 35 years of her experience. But I guess that would be millions of words.

ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., kicked off her 88 county tour across Ohio at a canvassing event on Sunday morning saying that she, just like Democratic Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, inspires people with her words. "I’ve given a lot of speeches in my life. Probably, I don’t know hundreds of thousands. <more>
