Hillary's staggering ineptitude on Rev. Wright reveals itself yet again
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 03:40 PM by BeyondGeography
Hillary should have denounced Pastorgate over a week ago. Instead, today, she tries to keep it alive. This shows us again why she won't win the nomination and why superdelegates will have no choice but to promote Obama's nomination when this is over.

Hillary should have criticized the media's handling of Pastorgate before Obama's game-changing speech last Tuesday. If she's at all serious about presenting herself as a unifier in the party, Pastorgate was actually a golden opportunity for her to begin to patch things up with Obama's supporters, particularly the black vote. It would have shown guts about something larger than herself, principle and leadership.

Of course, that's why she never did it.

And today, she makes things even worse for itself with party insiders by scratching at the wound just as it's beginning to heal.

Penalizing a black man for his church, a church that delivers services, opportunity, consolation and, yes, the h-word, Hillary, HOPE, to a depressed urban community. Not one word in your comments today about the world of good that Trinity UCC does for people, not a glimmer of understanding about why Barack Obama stands by the lifetime work of Jeremiah Wright.

You have handled this like a Republican, Hillary, which is why you won't be carrying the Democratic flag anywhere this fall.

1. Why should Hillary denounce pastorgate?
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 03:13 PM by leftofcool
Was she in the pews? Was Wright her spiritual advisor?

11. Denounce it not for political cover, but to promote her relationship with the black community
It would have been a brilliant strategic move to jump in and defend the priciples of TUCC and as an extension, the black community.

She could have taken the opportunity to denounce racism and going after the black church whose mission is to lift up disenfranchised communities.

12. Could have also shown a unified Democratic party
When her competitor was getting beaten on by RW pundits she could have helped him out while also making herself seem above the Obama vs. Clinton rivalry. She could have looked like the bigger person and come out smelling like a rose with everyone.

which is an incredibly short-sighted maneuver for someone who is depending on party insiders to solve her delegate problem when this is over.

15. a typical DLC maneuver
They write off "the fringe" demographics and shore up support in the areas they're already going to win. It takes too much work to fight perception. If you're a progressive anti-war liberal then we're going to ignore you and suck up to the right. Or in this case if the black vote is overwhelmingly supporting Obama then we might as well piss them off as much as possible. Nevermind the fact that if she could cut into his lead there by 10% then that would probably give her more delegates in all of those states like Alabama, Mississippi, & Louisiana where she got trounced.

19. Yes, she should have.... just as John McCain did.
And if anyone was still questioning the intent of her response qualifications on 60 Minutes a few weeks back, her jumping on the Wright bandwagon today should provide the answer. She knows exactly what she is doing, and is being as low and reprehensible as the most vile of Republican candidates.

She is pushing us ever closer to a McCain presidency.

20. "handled this like a Republican"
One of the major problems with some Obama folks is that they seem and act incredibly naive and don't seem to give even the slightest shit about everyone else who they may bring down with them.

The Op is a classic example of such stupidity.
