In case some planned to attend

Obama's Minister's Appearances Canceled

By WILLIAM MARCH of The Tampa Tribune

Published: March 25, 2008

Local appearances over the next three days by Barack Obama's controversial minister have been canceled.

Bible-Based Fellowship Church minister Earl Mason, just told the media that he canceled the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's three-day visit because of security concerns.

Mason said that although other local law enforcement agencies were to be involved in providing security for Wright, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office backed out, prompting Mason's concern over the ability to provide security. Mason said he is waiting to hear back from the sheriff about why his department backed out.

Mason was not specific about what the sheriff's office role would be beyond providing escorts and general security. "There's another agenda at work here," he said, adding that he'd been given different reasons why the Sheriff's Office pulled out. He said he feels that he was not well served as a taxpayer.

Wright, a frequent visitor to the Temple Terrace church, has been in the headlines recently after videos surfaced showing him making inflammatory and racially divisive sermons.

Wright was to be a featured speaker at the church's 10th anniversary celebration revival.

19. I thought she answered a question.
Not the same as bringing it back up again.

If you find this "disgusting" you aren't really ready for big time politics.

8. This is awful. I mean, people can dislike what Wright said, but
it does seem like he and the church he was to appear in are being treated differently than, say, Pat Robertson was after his post 9/11 remarks.

14. TCU in Fort Worth moved his appearance b/c of security concerns
I think that it is awful that there are so many racists that want this man dead. I really worry about the safety of him. Nobody deserves this and we can thank the Republicans and the rest of the filth who have hopped on their bandwagon for this one. I am disturbed to read the gleeful posts from some DUers about this one.

"FORT WORTH -- Black Church Summit sessions will not be held at Texas Christian University as scheduled because of security concerns triggered by a controversial award to be given to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, TCU said in a statement Wednesday.

"The executive committee of TCU's board of trustees voted in favor of moving summit events, including the March 29 awards banquet, and host Brite Divinity School agreed to the move, the statement said."
