Whatever happened to all the people who used to harp on that?

What happened to that measure of a campaign's viability?

1. Most of those were Obama folks, not Hillary folks.

They wanted Edwards out as competition for the progressive vote.

On edit: Though I personally did argue that public financing could be a great hinderance to him.

2. I wish Kucinich was still in
Remember all the crap he took here for not folding his modest nickel and dime campaign before the convention? With the titans mudwrestling this time around, he might've gotten more notice from people interested in actual issues.

3. I think he dropped out to concentrate on his House seat
and not because of a lack of finances in the Pres race. He always ran on a shoestring budget and didn't face the same high overhead the big name candidates have. He was really concerned for a bit about losing the primary in his district, though, and felt he had to go back to defend his home turf.

8. Oh yeah, I realize that
I was a little off-topic, but I was just recalling the derision and flack he took last time from plenty of the same people blowing a gasket when the idea Hillary should reconsider is floated. He caused no harm to the presumptive nominee, just gathered a headcount of the ordinarily invisible faction keenly interested in the issues he champions. Still, his presence was a grave offense to some.

9. That was nothing new...
this primary season has been so disheartening.

Do you recall Kucinich's speeches in which he'd talk about conservative voters and how we needed to reach out to them?

10. Yes
And seeing Edwards skooch over against Kucinich in matters of war and the surveillance state, a quicker and arguably bigger turnaround than Dennis did on abortion, was an affirmation of how obviously right he's been on matters others try to finesse. I was a bit wary, but was still chuffed that we had 2(!!!) economic and social populists in the race, one with a good chance of actually winning. That died pretty quick.

Disheartening? You know it.

4. Has it even been mentioned that she's $9 million in debt and has only $3 million cash on hand?
To Obama's $31.5 million? The only place I've heard it mentioned--unbelievably, was on Fox News Sunday this past weekend. We were driving on Sunday afternoon and listening to XM satellite radio.

5. I don't know...
the M$M routinely talked about Edwards' doomed candidacy in terms of finances, though, didn't they?

11. He could have written himself a check if he wanted to. He needed to win Iowa, the money was only
part of the reason he needed to drop out.

After 4 races he had not won any, he should have left before Florida. Obama would have done better and maybe we could have compromised on the delegates being seated. I guess we will never know.

Please don't take this as bashing John Edwards. I like the guy and hope he gets a cabinet position.
