"The division in the Democratic Party is highlighted by the fact that just 71% of Democratic Primary voters now say they will vote for Hillary Clinton in the general election campaign. If Barack Obama is nominated, 64% of Democratic Primary voters are ready to vote for him."

Daily horse race: Clinton 46% Obama 43%

52. It was a lot worse in 1972 and in 1979
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 09:59 PM by BeatleBoot
We're getting there, but Viet Nam (with a draft) was far worse and the interest rates of 1979 were astronomical (Prime Rate was around 15% at one point).

We are just starting to taste stagflation. But nothing near the stagflation of the late 70's which gave birth to the "misery index".

And in both instances our party got creamed.

Actually, I see a lot of parallels.

31. McCains unpopularity in his party is exactly what makes him appealing to
indies and moderate dems.

O has lost 18% of the indies.

Oh and on all that bipartisan stuff that O says he wants to do, McCain already has a record of doing.

It is foolish to think everyone is going to line up and vote for Obama.

Oh, and on National Security O gets a whopping 10% nationally.

However, neither candidate should be happy with bleeding that much Democratic support. It iterates a real problem we will have in the GE if it continues into November. Neither will win the GE with only 70% of Democratic support.

Hillary isn't winning the general election with 71% of Democratic support, especially with her token independent support.

Whichever candidate is nominated will have work to do to unite the party.

7. People lie
In a primary fight like this, a lot of people are going to say they wouldn't vote for the other candidate in a GE. It just makes their candidate look stronger in their mind. I might even say that if a pollster called my house. But most will get on board. The rest who won't deserve McCain. It's just too bad the rest of us might have to live with him too. :(

50. Made what up?
How did I make anything up? :wtf: I didn't present a research study. I've talked with both rabid Clinton and rabid Obama supporters. Quite a few of them have sworn up and down that they won't vote for the other candidate. Yet when you talk to them a while and impress upon them how fucked this world will be if McCain wins, they quickly change their tune. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that they might tell a pollster their initial thoughts about not voting for the other candidate.

I also said that if a pollster had called that I might have said I wouldn't vote for the candidate I don't support.

I'm also only 115 pounds. Ok - now THAT'S a lie. :eyes:

And save your snark and ire for someone that won't vote for the Democratic nominee, no matter who it is. I don't want crazy ass McCain as our Commander-in-chief.

37. Couldn't Have Said It Better!
I have always wondered what would make someone be so ignorant as to vote against their own best interest, just to prove that they are right. As my Grandma says, "Cut off the nose to spite their face". It doesn't matter that almost a million Iraqi's have been killed, millions without homes, electricty and the basic necessities. Innocent people including women, babies and old people dying everyday. Millions who are refugees in bordering countries who are homeless, hungry and sick. Thousands of our troops injured, some mentally being sent back over and over to fight a war of Bush's choosing. An economy that is shot to hell while jobs and money are shipped and spent elsewhere. BUT SO WHAT! I AM GOING TO PUT THE SAME DESTRUCTIVE PARTY BACK INTO POWER IF I CAN'T HAVE MY WAY. GOD HELP US!

51. Around here, some life-long Democrats are beginning to rationalize
why John McCain isn't that bad of choice if their candidate is not the Democratic Party nominee. The main thought is that if conservatives are talking about sitting out of the GE because McCain is too liberal, then maybe he is worth considering.

My personal hope is that HRC cuts a deal with the DNC, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to allow HRC to drop out of the race and take over Reid's job in the Senate. She would be 100% guaranteed to have a hugely important job in January versus the grind and uncertainty of the GE campaign. Obama, and the DNC fund raising machine, could then focus on beating McCain and keep him out of his comfort zone between now and the summer conventions.

FWIW

And we still hear that lie repeated here.

Now he's scoring similarly in that category; the difference being that Barack Obama is an UNKNOWN -- and therefore his negatives could CONTINUE to increase significantly.

And Hillary scores HIGHER WITH DEMS -- exceeding Barack Obama Nationally.

You Obamas have lifted up what is likely one of the worst political disasters we could imagine.
