Indiana House Majority Leader Russ Stilwell Endorses Obama
http://www.indianabarrister.com/archives/2008/03/stillwell_endorses_obama.html

STILWELL ENDORSES OBAMA

Indiana House Majority Leader Russ Stilwell is endorsing Barack Obama for President. In a news release this morning Stilwell said Obama “has the best plan to turn the economy around and create good-paying jobs across the country – including here in Indiana – but more important than plans, Obama’s decision to reject money from special interests means he’ll be better positioned to actually make good on his promises.”

What’s interesting about the endorsement is that Stilwell is from Booneville which is in southern Indiana near Evansville. And Stilwell represents the types of Democrats that Hillary Clinton has been targeting and Obama has been trying to reach, white, conservative and working class.

Indiana may turn out to be more of a bellwether states for Democrats that I originally thought.

2. I think so -- otherwise, why would he announce an endorsement (?)
I did hear today that a prominent Indiana legislator was endorsing Obama
so I'm assuming this is that person.

15. lost of local politicians endorse presidential candidates
they get thanked by Obama when he shows up, get a picture.

Also presumably they also become his 'pledged delegates' and can go to the convention that way.

If they don't commit to someone they have no chance of become a pledged delegate.

14. Do you have a link? I don't think he is.
Indiana has 10 superdelegates 5 for Clinton 2 for Obama and 3 uncommitted and his name is not on the list

Also Indiana has no 'add on delegates'

Presumeably he will be going to the convention as a pledged delegate.

4. Evan Bayh is seen as an empty suit by many Hoosier Democrats
And he looks like a reincarnation of Dan Quayle when he appears with Hillary at campaign stops.

I am of the view that Obama can win Indiana!

21. Not among progressive Hoosiers he ain't!
Here in Indianapolis, most people I know see him as a DINO at best.

7. I thought the Clintons instructed all Supers to withhold endorsements
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 07:07 PM by powergirl
I guess he didn't get the memo.

"Now, however, as Obama has gained steadily in the polls, the Clinton campaign has reversed field. Top Clinton aides are pleading with uncommitted super delegates to hold off making any commitments, fearful that any commitments they make would be to back Obama, not Clinton.

"A set of talking points emailed to Clinton supporters within organized labor describes the arguments to use on uncommitted super delegates. In the email, the Clinton campaign suggests telling the uncommitted delegates that "it would be unfair and unjust to cut off the nominating process now. There might come a time when the process needs to come to a close, but that time is not now."

8. Why on earth should superdelegates not choose somebody now,
but it was alright for them to choose someone before? Thats just nuts.

24. Good on ya, Russ Stilwell!
I don't care how White, conservative, blue collar working class ya are..people can see who is the best candidate and there's not even a close second now that hilary's sniperliargate has been revealed. It's a pattern whose layers are getting rapidly exposed.
