WaPo: Gephardt to run out of money by Feb. 7
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 11:19 AM by Bleachers7
<snip>

Steve Elmendorf, a top Gephardt adviser, said the campaign is likely to run out of money by Feb. 7 unless an Iowa win opens the floodgates -- which did not happen in 1988. Gephardt, who trails many of his rivals in fundraising, will collect $3.1 million in matching funds today -- enough, aides said, to be competitive in the early contests.

Gephardt has spent little time and money of late in New Hampshire but is planning media buys or campaign stops in South Carolina, North Dakota and Oklahoma to fortify his position for Feb. 3.

1. I honestly do wish him luck.
*sigh* Unfortunately for Gep, I think his record is going to prevent any leap he might have made. He made a bad choice in playing dirty politics with the Dean slam page, and his missed votes record is going to be a HUGE problem for him.

Gephardt's page is amazing and perhaps historical. It reminds us why the phrase "democrats are no different than republicans" doesn't die.

Dean is making himself out to be someone he isn't and I'm glad that Gephardt pointed that out.

What's amazing is: Dean's supporters will bash that page but not Michael Moore's next book on Bush.

What's fair is fair and I thank Gephardt for doing what he did...

6. Maybe in the south of the state
but I hear n'ary a word of him in the north country. I have my ear to the tracks too!

Dean's already got three offices down there and a very strong presence. I don't see Michigan going to Gep. I just don't see it.

4. Politics of the past goes belly up
If only he'd fought bush the way he wants to fight Dean.

Iowans are looking for a candidate to beat bush and Gep is coming up very short.

7. If Gep runs out of money on Feb 7th, then...
...his timing is flawless. He obviously won't need any money after that point.
