1. I am a pledged delegate to the county convention for a candidate.
I am not certain however if I can actually attend the convention, although I would most definitely like to do that.

I can't attend the state convention at all, which means I can;t even think about national

sigh

6. In Texas you have to be voted into the position by a group of your candidates supporters.
This takes place at our Democratic precinct convention.

16. If you can't attend or think you'll be too late for sign in you should let your people know
They'll want to seat an alternate in your place if you cannot be there. If you have a preference as to who is your replacement from the pool of alternates you should let them know that too.

If you already know there will be plenty of alternates there from your candidate to step up to fill your place this isn't an issue.

3. My son is but it's all a big secret
The only thing I know is that the first day they put them all together with the Clinton delegates and it didn't work out well. Evidently you have to go to "delegate school."

9. I am a pledged delagate going to convention Saturday.
I was a delagate 4 years ago too. It was a long day, but it was fun. The Dean folks joined with the Kucinich folks to get K's resolutions passed up to state. A lot of the resolutions were close calls, so we had a lot of people YELLING Aye or Nay, and quite a bit of debate.

21. It's A Chaotic Process
I was a delegate at state convention in 04. Those who want to go on to national convention got up on stage and had all of 3 minutes to state their case. Many had fliers that they passed around earlier or went around and introduced themselves to us.

There were so many people wanting to go (hundred or more)and they give you a sheet with all their names and you're supposed to choose your top 10 or so (I forgot) -

Recently my friend who is very involved in local stuff, I asked him - would you want to go to the convention and he laughed and said, "I'd never get chosen, you have to be a woman, a minority or disabled" And you know what....???? I remember voting for the women, the disabled and minority women. In the democratic party, there's many disabled folks (including myself) who are very engaged. I saw many people in wheel chairs, canes at each convention I went to prior to the state.

This year I was an alternate delegate for Obama, but all the real delegates showed up in my hood, so I was not chosen. But it was a fun day and I was with friends who were delegates. Put all those Hillary / Obama supporters in a large room and surprise, surprise, we all got along. The ugliness of this campaign is on the internet - people say things to perfect strangers in writing that they would never say to their face.

I live in Denver which is very exciting, we haven't had a convention here in 100 years and it's a historic election. I do hope things are settled before the convention, I don't want to see my city get trashed because of some hanky panky back room deals.

26. It is up to the delegate.... technically.....
but my county Democratic Club gave from our budget and "passed the hat" for our delegate to national, and as a result, most of their expenses were paid. I don't know if most places come through like that, but I understand it's typical for our county club.

23. I was voted in at my precinct caucus
My precinct had 12 Obama delegates and 12 alternates, and I think Clinton got either 4 or 6 delegates and alternates. I was precinct secretary and helped run the meeting, so people were gracious enough to vote for me heavily even though so many people wanted to be a delegate. The top 12 vote-getters were to be delegates and the next 12 will be alternates. This week my Precinct Co-Captain and I contacted all of them to confirm who could be there to make sure we have all our allotted seats filled.

At t he convention, we will choose who gets to be a delegate to state. 4 years ago, I was a shoe-in, as the only one interested from my precinct. This year, it's crazy. So I do not know if I will get to go as a delegate or alternate, but I will run for one of the at-large spaces if not, and if I do not get that, I will go as an observer. It is not until June, but I already have my hotel reservation with friend and fellow DUer WestHoustonDem!

Lisa0825 and WestHoustonDem.... putting the  back in :patriot:

10. On the county level? Yes.
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 08:58 PM by backscatter712
I showed up to my caucus on Super Tuesday, put in my vote for Obama, and then once the straw poll for my precinct was done, we elected county delegates in proportion to our votes, and I was one of the guys that got elected.

My duty on the county level's already done - earlier this month, I went to the county assembly and cast my vote for Obama, and participated in other county-level Democratic Party business, like voting for the nominee for our Congressional district election.

As a county level delegate, my name's in the hat to potentially be selected as a state level delegate, and I could conceivably be a delegate at the national convention in Denver at the Pepsi Center.

Unfortunately, there are thousands of people in that hat, and very few actual seats at the Pepsi Center. Maybe I'll get lucky...

17. I'm a delegate to my County convention on April 19th.
It is there that I will become a pledged delegate to go forward to the District and State conventions. Once you are pledged and you become part of the pool of a particular candidate's delegates, the candidate approves the delegates. I don't really see how the Clinton campaign can expect we can be made to change our mind, especially given the candidate approval process.

19. We have to sign who we are pledged to.
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 09:13 PM by mmonk
Then the campaign receives the list of delegates pledged to the candidate and approves the delegates (or disapproves if there is a problem with a delegate or they are not sure).

20. I will add you get elected through the process.
Delegates vote who goes forward from the delegates all the way to the national convention which is decided at the state convention. If someone is a delegate, they at least usually make it through the district level.
