Three cheers to Chairman Dean
For developing the strategy that got us ahead in the delegate count. If you would have only been a little more cool and collected I think you would have been President of the United States. Without your experiment in 2004, 2008 would not be a possibility.

Oh yeah and a belated THANK YOU for 2006 that was great too!

I hope you are given a position of Diginity and great responsibility in the next Democrat Administration.

3. I will always be a Dean supporter
I actually wrote one of my State's DNC members to encourage her to vote for Dean as DNC Chair. I think he has done a great job as Chair and if Obama wins the Democratic nomination and wins against McCain - I am so excited for the future of the Democratic party - I think it will be bursting with acticity in small and large pockets all across the country.

52. I used to say that until someone suddenly pushed Edwards out of the race.
The way Harry Reid was talking the other day, I'm beginning to suspect more and more that Howard Dean and the DNC had something to do with that.

Edwards was our only hope this year.

After the remaining candidates destroy each other on the way to the convention, leading to 4 more years of Repuke hell in the White House, I will have given up on the DNC completely. And I'll slap a bumper sticker on my car that says: "Don't blame me. I voted for Edwards".

63. 2004 nominee was STUCK with the party infrastructure as it EXISTED under Terry McAuliffe
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 03:31 PM by blm
and he had allowed many of the state party infrastructures to weaken and collapse without any rebuilding during his four year stewardship, including in crucial states like Florida, Michigan, and Ohio.

Dean is STILL working to build those infrastructures.

Kerry won. The RNC stole that election and McAuliffe's DNC sat on their hands for four years and LET them do it.

Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 08:46 PM by StevieM
But you're right, Obama didn't get where he is by truly outperforming Hillary. He owes his lead to dominance in undemocratic caucuses. We don't even know whether he would have won most of those states at all. He certainly wouldn't have won 79% of the vote in an Idaho election.

23. Primaries & caucuses are inter-party events
if there are two candidates someone will always win..A or B.. and the grand total will equal 100%.. whether or not the state ends up being won in the general or not..

Hillary had a chance to participate..she chose to NOT participate

31. Except Americans in the states that 'didn't matter'
Obama will win in the general because of his fifty-state strategy.
Hillary would lose because she lacks one, or, at this point, any strategy except slash and burn.

The 'Party Establishment' is for Obama? You mean the DLC is voting against their own interests?

Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 03:35 PM by Mooney
Caucuses have been a completely legitimate part of the primary process for 100 years. Nobody ever complained about them until Hillary Clinton got her ass handed to her due to her own failure to take them seriously and prepare for them.

But I'm sure I don't have to tell you about the history of caucuses. I'm sure that you find them so unfair and so undemocratic that you've worked tirelessly to address this hydra-headed beast of voter disenfranchisement with your elected representatives, and I'm sure that once this primary season is over and Hillary Clinton emerges victorious, that you will continue your crusade to end the gross charade known as the caucus.

A grateful nation thanks you.

16. Dean's done an excellent job. The 50-state strategy works.
With Obama as the nominee, we have a real shot at picking up or keeping:

Colorado
Iowa
Kansas
Nevada
New Hampshire
New Mexico
Oregon
Virginia
Wisconsin

That's 66 Electoral Votes right there, likely enough to differentiate the winner from the loser.

19. The Clintons/Friends spread it around that Dean was not electable
They did that in Iowa at the caucuses. They had a pile-on of the other candidates (not all, but most) on Dean at the debates....(Dean should have been elected president....

Just think, no Iraq war, no tax breaks for rich, health care would be on the books, more alternative energy measures, NAFTA would be improved....Bin Laden captured!! (that is, if he really did "IT").

I remember Carville on Crossfire saying with his usual smirk, "we have better candidates than Dean..bla bla" and I was so mad at him.

And it was awesome. After a cold and I mean COLD weekend of banging on doors and pounding the pavement it was great to have what turned out to be a pep rally for some very tired and hardworking troops. I will never love a candidate as much as I love Howard Dean, but I feel gratified and vindicated at all the work us Deaniacs did is 2004 coming to fruition in Obama's campaign. We WERE right. We knew it then and we know it now. YES WE CAN!

57. The scream didn't sink anything - other factors....
The Clinton's/DLC were at it again in Iowa back in the day. They started a heavy "unelectable" campaign against Dean and he lost the Iowa primary he was predicted to win by almost everybody.

His supporters were so downcast that he needed to cheer them up, though he himself needed some cheering up. He gave his encouraging and thankful speech to the crowd and ended it with the famous scream.

That was the night I went online and started to contribute to Dean. Not a lot, am not rich, but just had to do something for him.

36. I agree with you
but let me just elaborate as others have mentioned about Dean's 50 state strategy. This means being competitive in all 50 states, not writing off states as one campaign consistently has. That is what I appreciate about the way Dean is approaching taking back our government. The goal (if I'm not mistaken) is to have win the presidency, hold on to the US House and Senate and increase our numbers in both of those chambers.

This mantra of Dean is bad and against Hillary is getting old.

For the people who aren't willing to back our party's strategy, I say to them bluntly: there's the door, goodbye.

55. He had the vision to campaign in "boutique" states!
He went into red territory and made it Blue. Way to go, Howard! Don't allow the Thugs safe ground!

59. WTF was wrong with the Dean scream?
It was like a yeehah! or a military hooah! A guy with some passion. OH THE HORROR!

It's not like they caught him red-ass lying or something.

The "Dean scream" reaction and Janet Jackson's boob frenzy make me think sometimes, this country is beyond hope.

The real problem is our corporate media, which is the propaganda arm of profiteering industries.

60. The 50 state strategy will be the reason that the Democratic Party
ultimately gains a stronghold on the WH and the Legislature. Also, Governorships, State Legislatures, Local Gov't., etc. The Democratic way is the best way for the masses, and Dr. Dean is an excellent courier for our message. Thanks again, Howard!

91. Tears of rage, tears of grief, Why must I always be the thief?
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last

so why did MI violate DNC rules?

92. "so why did MI violate DNC rules?"
The Michigan Dem leaders wanted to front-load
the primaries in favor of Clinton.

They NEVER believed that the rules would be
adhered to.

It's kind of cute to watch them squirm now,
even though I didn't get to vote for my
candidate here.

What a MESS they made!

79. He's done more for the country by not being President.
He made big changes, ones that were long overdue in order to help the country in the long term. Being Pres is great but the real, permanent change happens at the ground level, and that's exactly what he's doing.

90. Too true-- But there is one last job he has to do. Come down here to
Florida with a BIG ASS BROOM. Maybe a case of whupass as well.

We have a number of Florida "Democratic" Party "leaders" down here that need to be taken to the woodshed.

Thurman
Geller
Meek
Nelson
Wasserman-Schultz.

Time to clean house and retake the legislature.

WHY?

Because we now have such heinous things on the November Ballot as

Using Tax money to help fund religious education amendment
Constitutional Ban on Gay Marriage amendment
Let folks bring Guns to work amendment

All courtesy of the Republican shits and "Democratic" enablers in this state.

They will do anything to get out the Right-of-Atilla vote.

God, I so want to leave this regressive state.
