3. Selective service age perameters were increased under Bush
I think to 36.

They will not rescind the State's authority to conscript in war time or national emergency.

The President asks, Congress pushes a button, and out comes the cannon fodder.

4. For Obama, Clinton, and McCain, I'd guess
"No", "No", and "No".

But to sustain an occupation force for another hundred years, it might be necessary.

6. A hundred year occupation would seem to come under McCain's
agenda. Has he mentioned the possibility of a draft?

9. I haven't heard him mention a draft.
But there's more than one kind of draft.

Selective Service, the bunch that "greeted" me in the '60's is a normal draft.

Then there's the economy-driven, underhanded, draft. As we go into economic decline, people will "sign up voluntarily" because it's the only job available.

Or, people "sign up voluntarily" to avoid jail time for some big misdemeanor or minor felony. That happened a lot in the '60's, I don't know if it still happens.

5. I personally think we need to get rid of the backdoor draft right now
Bring everyone home who has been forced to stay beyond their enlistments, unless they want to stay. Then start also bringing the rest home for at least a year at a time. This army is "about broken".

8. I haven't been on the barricades since I got home from
VietNam -

Fuck it, I want to riot over this war RIGHT NOW. A draft could give us another million or so people to hit the streets with.....

Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
Ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays hail to the chief,
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, lord,

It aint me, it aint me, I aint no senators son, son.
It aint me, it aint me; I aint no fortunate one, no,

Fortunate son,
John Fogarty
