Andrea Mitchell said Condi Rice is a consideration as a running mate for McCain
Not sure how it would go over but that combination would just about cover all voting sub groups.

31. As a young black man I can tell you that we can not stand Dr. Rice.
Just because you're black does not mean you automatically get over vote.

2. Mitchell is a personal friend of Condi's.
There ought to be a disclaimer on the crawl. Andrea Mitchell Greenspan is a personal friend of Secretary Rice.

.....Condi will look more like a caregiver in a retirement home than a VP candidate.

4. This would be a mistake for the GOP. They're good at race-baiting and racism, not so good at cross-
racial appeals. Think Harold Ford (easily smeared and defeated by racist tactics) and Lynn Swann (easily defeated by Democrats).

7. Well, given that McCain is known for his lack of respect for Rice, this seems highly
improbable except in the pundits minds.

This said, it is not a worse choice than any other I have heard. No choice is good on the GOP side.

11. I hope it happens... Imagine the debates! (Insist on no questions about shoes!!)
Just think of the questions that could be asked of her about her knowledge of and performance during the Bush Administration.

At debates with Democratic Candidates... the cluelessness would be on full display. OF course every answer Condi gives will allude to her knowledge of the Soviet Union(which someone needs to remind her no longer exists).

29. Lots of conservatives like Condi Rice
they are less concerned about her color than ideological correctness. A good number of them are even willing to shrug off the fact that she's single (and said by some to be gay) - they like her tough stance on foreign policy and willingness to toe the party line.

On the other hand, I don't see it picking up many black voters...a lot of them remember her going shopping for $1000 shoes in Manhattan while NOLA was under water.

19. It's possible.
She had first been mentioned as a possible VP for Willard "Mitt" Romney. He had the backing of one group of the Good Old Boys, and another more neoconservative group was promoting her to fill out the ticket.

McCain has the endorsement, though not the whole-hearted support, of both of those groups. Group #1 is providing more backing. Group #2 wants to put Condi on the ticket.

The up side is they think it could counter some of the Obama appeal. The down side is that the Good Old Boys' feeling about Condi is summed up in Woodward's quoting Bush Sr in his book State of Denial, where he says, "Condi has been something of a disappoinment, hasn't she?"

The chances of her being the choice is probably about 1 in 3, at this time. By the time of the republican convention, it will become slightly higher.

25. that would be fantastic for many reasons...
1.) alienate racist/misogynist republican base.

2.) alienate moderate repubs who are sick of bush and anything to do with his administration.

3.) alienate undecided and dem moderates who might've considered mccain otherwise because of her ties to bush.

it would be a perfect disaster for mccain.
i like it!

do you really think she would be an asset?

What are her major accomplishments? Imagine her getting asked that question.

Funny bit from kos today on Condi

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/28/rice-this-tough/

According to Condi, war is hard. Who could have imagined that war in Iraq "would be this tough"? Seems to me that figuring out stuff like that would have been the job of people like the president's national security advisor.

Think about all the times she has said, "no one could have predicted" - even though that was her JOB! What a montage that would be!

33. Condi is un-electable to any office no matter what...
After 9-11 when she was NSA she stated that "nobody ever dreamed they would fly hijacked planes into a building"

That is either the most incompetent statement in history or the most despicable bold faced lie in history.

Plans to hijack planes and fly them into targets within the U.S. date back to the Nixon administration.

There were also plans foiled in Europe to do the same thing.

She can never live that quote down. She will go live out her life in some RW "think" tank and be judged by history as a complete failure.
