Why Did I Bother Defending Senator Clinton?
The events of this past week have really made me feel foolish for having attempted to defend Hillary Clinton against the charges that she has overstepped the boundaries of "assertive" and crossed into the realm of the gutter.

Even though I prefer Obama (now Vastly prefer Obama), I have always respected Clinton and have said repeatedly that should she be the nominee I would not only support her but delight in having her as my president.

But this week was a very bad week for her. Perhaps her worst mistake was to rely upon the advisers she has chosen; in other words, maybe she is to tired that she is taking terrible advice. Be that as it may, I can't justify what happened this week on any level of reality.

First we have one of her campaign advisers refer to Richardson as a "Judas" even though he struggled with his decision, phoned Clinton beforehand to explain, made his choice, and defended it eloquently.

That was disgusting. It was beyond disgusting. Richardson is a very decent and thoughtful person who obviously tormented himself over this decision. Anyway, enough said about that.

Then Clinton pulled an embarrassing O'Reilly by claiming she had been in the middle of combat and so forth in former Yugoslavia, when footage from that event clearly shows that it was a relatively serene and friendly reception.

Then she made matters ten times worse by blaming that lie on sleep deprivation.

Have you ever been sleep deprived? Even severely sleep deprived? I would guess that 90% of everyone here has, at one time or another (probably fairly recently) met the criteria for severely sleep deprived. Did you ever "mis-speak" about something like being in a war zone when you weren't?

And for her encore, even worse, she tried to toss the hot potato back to Obama by resurrecting the Reverend Wright business after saying that she would not stoop so low as to discuss it.

Enough is enough. I can no longer, in good conscience, before my friends here at DU, defend her on any level--other than that I continue to be appalled at the sexism some of her opponents in the media display. Beyond that, I wash my hands and hope for the best.

No longer will you hear me defend Clinton. I'm simply an Obama supporter. I don't wish Clinton any ill will at all, but I hope she gracefully backs out of this mess she has created without damaging her important reputation any further. She and Bill can and hopefully will continue to serve the American people in some capacity other than presidential candidate.

They have much to offer. But at this point, they are doing much harm, IMHO, to not only Obama but themselves and most importantly any prayer we might have of party unity.

That's just my two cents, after months and months of intense frustration that have finally boiled over. At least I can say it feels good to have made a decisive choice in one direction.

1. Don't blame the advisors.
That is letting her off the hook. What Hillary's recent actions indicate, whether they were her own ideas or her advisors, is a fundamental contempt for the intelligence of voters. She agrees with her advisors that we are too stupid to recognize Machiavellian lies and cheating when we see it.

2. You are a very decent and thoughtful person Mike03
I wouldn't feel foolish if I were you. You stood up for what you believed was the truth and did it with good intentions. How can anyone in their right mind fault that?

Welcome and thank you. Obama's going to need every decent person in this nation to support him over the next few months because the smear machine is just getting warmed up. He's a good man with a brilliant mind. Before he ran, he and Michelle made it clear this was a one time shot and they wouldn't go through this nightmare ever again. Thanks for lining up next to him.

15. It's turned or is turning into Hillary's camp and McCain's side against Obama.
So for the sake of our party, I hope more people have the same feelings as the OP. Welcome.

5. good two cents thanks
Its hard in here sometimes because people take positions defending her that you know they don't really mean but they are trying to be loyal. She has put all her supporters in a terrible position.

I wonder if they will keep on sending contributions. Once the money drops she will stop.

11. I feel the same way about Bill - I defended him for years!
Then I realized what NAFTA and the Communications Bill of 1996 was all about and how much he has "taken" in "donations" from Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and East Indian corporations. I am very disappointed in the things I have found out since the 1990's when I thought he was one of the countries best Presidents ever. He did some good things and for that I am grateful but all in all I am really disappointed.

14. I'm so sick of that woman I could scream
I hope Pennsylvania is a huge landslide for Obama. THEN what will she do?

Her mudslinging, desperate attempts at manipulating delegates and disqualified primaries, distortions, half-truths, back-pedaling, stubborn refusal to simply admit she does not and will not have the delegates to win the nomination (and lack of gracious concession)--all of it adds up to a very tiresome person who seems to think that bad publicity is better than no publicity at all. What will this publicity hound do when (not if, but WHEN) she falls out of the top 10 news stories. Heaven forbid it wouldn't be about Hillary, nonstop 100% coverage of Hillary, day in and day out, 24/7 from now to eternity. Take a hike, lady, we are sooo over you--you are an embarrassment to yourself, to the Democratic Party, and to the process of democracy itself.

19. The Bosnia thing tops it off
I could see, well, yeah she's sleep deprived. But the fact that she kept going on and on about it again and again, after video was surfacing.

I'm hesitant to say it, but it's a fucking lie. She thought she could get away with it and appear to have more military type experience. Sorry, that shit don't fly with me. You don't lie about being in danger of sniper fire, when we have real military men and woman in danger from it 24/7.

I'll defend her on DU on with it's to a ridiculous post, i.e. Hillary killed Vince Foster.

21. The Bosnia thing has just astounded me, too.
Breathtakingly hideous thing to do--and it was very calculated. For all her other sings, this one was especially bad.

And just as bad is her arrogant response to being caught in the lie. Just own up to it and try to do damage control, for chrissakes.

20. I know how you feel (somewhat)
When she first ran for the Senate, besides for the Presidential race, that was the race I most wanted to see us win (and I'm not from NY).
From then till now I've been disappointed in her voting record, and didn't really want to see her run for President, but I was still somewhat neutral. For the Maryland primary voted for Obama, but I would have been fine with it if Clinton had won.

Since then it's been one thing after another, and I'm to the point where I wish I would never have to see her again. If she comes on TV, I hit the mute button. I am no longer interested in anything she has to say, and her voice grates on me almost as much as W's does.
