Rev. Wright's Church Newsletter Includes Commentary Critical Of Israel
Source: CBS NEWS

Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, continues to make headlines. The most recent focus? His church's newsletter. A June 10th, 2007 issue of the newsletter featured an open letter written by Ali Baghdadi, appearing on the "Pastor's Page," that calls Israel an "apartheid" regime. The letter says Israel worked on an "ethnic bomb" that kills "blacks and Arabs." The letter also says "Israel was the closest ally to the white supremacists of South Africa."

In the introduction to an article printed on the "Pastor's Page" on July 7th, 2007, Wright references "the 'state' of Israel" – note the quotation marks around the word "state."

And on July 22nd, the "Pastor's Page" carried a pro-Palestine article by Hamas leader Mousa Aba Marzook excerpted from the Los Angeles Times.

"Why should any Palestinian recognize the monstrous crimes carried out by Israel's founders and continued by its deformed modern Apartheid state?" Marzook asks.

The revelations could hurt Obama's standing with the Jewish community, with whom some commentators have already suggested Obama has a problem. The American Spectator has seized on comments by Obama advisor Merrill McPeak concerning the influence of pro-Israel voters on Middle East policy. ("Obama has a Jewish problem and McPeak's bigoted views are emblematic of what they are," wrote Robert Goldberg.)

to trade with South Africa's apartheid government when all other nations boycotted it.

Archbishop Tutu of South Africa visited Israel and he compared Israel's treatment of Palestinians with the South African apartheid regime and Tutu has not renounced his comparison.

9. I notice you are working on the "I" countries
Israel & Italy so far

Let me help, Rev. Wright spoke out against Indian curry & chutney.
Too spicy ... it gives people "the winds."

Rev. Wright, "Fly fishing in Iceland is done by white devils."

"The Irish are too drunk on St. Paddy's Day."

more "I" countries below

Indonesia – Republic of Indonesia
Iran – Islamic Republic of Iran
Iraq – Republic of Iraq

Isle of Man (British Crown dependency)

11. As I've said the anti-Semitism by association is the last smear...
...Clinton's surrogates will/can play before they have to accept Obama as the nominee and finally decide whether to vote for Obama, McCain or abstain from the 2008 presidential election.

It's been whispered before but it's getting louder. That's the bad news. The good news is the allegations are the last possible stop they can pull out.

And it ain't going to work.

The founding of that state and the way it was formed was problematic from the start. They couldn't have picked ANY other piece of real estate?

31. Some points:
1. Like many of us have said before, what does it matter what someone's pastor says? This is not an issue.

2. I do not like that every single thing this man has said is dissected in search for anything not politically correct. He is not running for office and has retired, and so this level of scrutiny is mean-spirited and serves no purpose.

3. Criticism of Israel's policies regarding Palestine does not make anyone an anti-semite. That argument was disingenuous when Israel invaded Lebanon recently, and it is just as disingenuous now.
