Please help me understand! If Hillary was a "Goldwater Girl"
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 07:55 AM by Tim4319
how come her associations with someone with racist views are brought to the forefront? Please, someone help me understand this?

<<snip>>
Goldwater's politics began in Phoenix as a city councilman. Goldwater's politics of States' Rights to oppose Civil Rights began to take bloom in downtown Phoenix. Building a 100,000 square foot monument in downtown Phoenix would be an affront to the Phoenix African American community. It is an outrage Black American leaders should have to suffer once again over States' Rights, code for nigger, nigger, nigger.

To those that support building this monument to a anti Civil Rights racist, align themselves with Goldwater's philosophy on States' Rights over Civil Rights. Endorsing and promoting Goldwater's legacy exposes one's true colors and lacks empathy for African Americans.

The Goldwater Library would be no different than having the KKK burn a cross on Patriots Square Park. Shame on you, Gordon, for even considering a Goldwater monument.

1. You don't suppose it might be because it was almost 40 years ago
do ya?

4. Have she denounced and seperated herself from that relationship?
I have never heard her explain herself. I know it was 40 years ago. Let's see how many families, to this day, are still effected by laws that were in place 40 years ago!

15. Ever heard of research?

"Rodham attended the 1968 Republican National Convention in Miami, where she decided to leave the Republican Party for good; she was upset over how Richard Nixon's campaign had portrayed Rockefeller and what Rodham perceived as the "veiled" racist messages of the convention."

2. Because, unlike BO's 20 year pal-ship w/ Racist Pastor Wright, she saw her error and changed.
Thanks for asking!

3. Okay, I have a better understanding
Goldwater had power, by being a Senator, to support legislation to end segregation, but he chose not to. Rev. Wright just spoke about those injustices. I got it now!

6. Does that last post seem like race-baiting to you?
Please forgive me for asking you directly, as I know your heritage. Some have said those types of comments are not "racist" per se, but are merely race-baiting, using racism as a ploy to convince someone to vote against a certain candidate.

Do you have an opinion on it, that you would like to share?

Thanks!

8. No race baiting here.
You can vote for whom ever you choose! I was just merely asking a question, doesn't actions speak louder than words?

How come it is more wrong to be associated with someone who speaks about injustices, then it is to be associated with someone who has power to effect those injustices?

10. I was referring to reply #2, but I agree with you
Goldwater had the power you speak of, and Rev. Wright doesn't. That makes perfect sense. Senator Clinton supported Goldwater even after the civil rights movement began in the late-50's/early-60's.

But I was referring to reply #2 above when I spoke about race-baiting.

Thanks!

21. I'm not stuck with anything
She was a Goldwater girl and she does praise McCain more than she does fellow Democrats.

Obama has more content in his baby finger than she has in her body.

Thanks for inspiring me ~ today it's $50 to Move On and I've got to check on my donations to Obama, think I'm almost maxed out. :bounce:

20. Changed to support Eugene McCarthy
In the 1968 presidential election, McCarthy unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for president of the United States to succeed incumbent Lyndon B. Johnson on an anti-Vietnam War platform. He would unsuccessfully seek the presidency five times altogether. In 1980, he endorsed Ronald Reagan for the presidency.<1>

19. Yes she was! and then a McCarthy girl and then a McGovern girl
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 09:38 AM by not_too_L8
She was a high-school Young Republican and "Goldwater Girl" in 1964 but swung to supporting Democrat Eugene McCarthy's campaign in 1968 and George McGovern's in 1972.
