My Florida and Michigan solution: What do Hillary supporters think? |
|
Split FL pledged delegates 60/40 in favor of Hillary. Split MI 50/50 and give SDs from both states 1/2 a vote each.
I actually think that this is a FAIR solution, and I wonder what others think. (and of course, I want to know what fellow Obama supporters think, as well).

(i.e., say 3 SDs vote for one candidate, giving them 1.5 votes) would you round up or down?

and I suspect that most Clinton supporters won't either, but I'd like to hear why they don't think this is fair.

...it's her only hope. Of course, it's not even CLOSE to being fair, but it's all she has at this point.

14. She wants the SOOOOPER delegates.. |
|
she knows she cannot catch him without those sooopers from MI & FL (they broke mostly FOR her)
the apportioned delegates resulting from a re-do would pretty much be a wash...and she knows it..

Giving Obama all the uncommitteds. And strip the supers of their votes...they caused this mess!

Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 10:21 AM by Maribelle
He is truly not well-liked in these parts. I believe he is currently pulling 37% against McCain, and that 37%, of course, includes the Hillary supporters that will vote democratic regardless of the nominee.

If you learned anything at all last week, it's that you should only lie about things that can't be independently verified...
State Poll Give Obama The Edge
Barack Obama's presidential bid looks strong in the state, according to a recent poll, an edge supporters say shows he is more electable than Hillary Clinton.
Obama, a Democratic senator from Illinois, would defeat Arizona Sen. John McCain 52-35 percent among nearly 1,700 registered voters surveyed last week.
Clinton, a New York senator, topped McCain 45-42 percent, which is close to the poll's 2.4 percentage margin of error.

it was 50-33 in the original vote so 60-40 doesnt sit well with me, and I still think Obama would win Michigan but I wouldnt argue against a 50/50 split.

12. If I were Obama here is what I would do |
|
After all the primaries are over and if Obama still has his margin of seated delegates and popular vote I'd say, OK, Hillary, you can have your delegates from Florida from the Jan 29th primary as well as popular vote, I'll take mine from the votes I got in florida. For Michigan you can have the seated delegates you won as well as popular vote, and, I'll take the undecided. If the numbers work out where he still has more seated delegates then Hillary will be happy, her supporters will be happy and FL/MI voters will be happy. And at that time, Obama can be declared the winner because he has more seated delegates and most likely the SD's will still endorse him. Now I think he can only do this if he has between 100-150 more seated delegates then Hillary after all the primaries are finished. I know this is a difficult move for Obama but I believe this would work and still keep everyone happy.

Michigan voters did not have a real choice. 50/50 is fair. As for the SDs, I think there has to be a punative aspect. Many of them are folks that caused this mess.

18. Actually, I believe the credentials committee meets in June |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 11:03 AM by Jersey Devil
I read a story about it somewhere and cannot find it now, but as I recall, the credentials committee numbers about 150 consists of delegates from the candidates plus several (I think it is 30-50) chosen by the DNC chair, Dr Dean. Since many of the members were chosen before Obama started to come on and include a lot of former Clinton Admin members, I would think the committee would lean Clinton to some extent, which could be stopped by Dean's contingent who I understand are largely people loyal to Dean.
So MI and FLA could be decided in June, long before the convention. For the purposes of discussion, if we assume they vote to seat them with some kind of compromise, the only recourse that Hillary would have would be to appeal their decision on the floor at the convention.
With at least 2 months to hammer Hillary for fighting the decision of the DNC credentials committee before the convention I think the pressure on her not to appeal would be almost unbearable.

michigan ballot. Not hrc! Dodd, Gravel, Dennis left their names on the ballot. I say allocate 60 % of the delegates to HRC and the other 35% as non-committed and let those 35% decide who they would support at the convention.

Clearly it would be totally unfair to the voters who voted against her to allot her more than she won. Trust YOU to lay down another stinking pile of shit. That's all that you do.

26. Take away their super delegates and find some % split that seems |
|
reasonable to most people (50-50, 55-45, 60-40, whatever). Counting the delegates at half value is also worth thinking about. It's the super delegates in Michigan that need to have their collective butts kicked. I would have liked to have seen a fair re-vote in both states (if it had been possible) with the delegates counted at half and the super delegates completely removed, but that can not happen now - so this is about as close to fair as it's going to get.
