MSM pushing latest Rev. Wright "controversy" - "garlic noses" of Italians
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 11:16 AM by sabra
It's being reported as an article written by Wright and published by his daughter.

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=6047006

More controversial comments from Senator Barack Obama's former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright have come to light.

The comments are in an article published in the Trumpet magazine. Wright is listed as the magazine's chief executive officer, and his daughter is listed as publisher.

In the December 2007 issue, Wright describes the crucifixion of Jesus as a public lynching Italian style. He also writes about the "garlic noses" of Italians.

The Italian American Human Relations Foundation of Chicago condemned the comments.

"We're really, really sad that at this day and age that that kind of thought would be in someone's mind and would be spewed in public," said Louis Rago, president, American Human Relations Foundation.

<snip>

Obama’s former minister, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, also came under fire this week when reports surfaced that he had written an article for Trumpet Magazine, run by his daughters, in which he said that “white supremacy is clearly in charge in America.” The article also quotes him referring to Italians’ “garlic noses,” and characterizing Jesus’ crucifixion as “a public lynching, Italian-style.”

The problem is this isn't an "article" it's a reprint of a eulogy given by Wright for the late Asa Hilliard. And he his reference to Italians is actually of Romans in the time of Jesus. Additionally I ask you to please read the whole eulogy...

Asa Hilliard A Child Of God

From:
Chicago Defender
Date:
November 9, 2007
Author:
Wright, Jeremiah A Jr

<snip>

Jesus refused to be defined by others. He knew what other people said about Him. He knew how other people defined Him. Jesus lived His whole life under Roman oppression. The Italians ran everything in Jesus' day from the local government to the Roman Empire.

From Pontius Pilate to Caesar (pronounced "Kaiser") Augustus... from the circumstances surrounding his birth, a decree from the Roman government caused Joseph to have to leave Nazareth to go to his Bantustan in Bethlehem to get a passbook to legitimize his ethnicity... from the circumstances surrounding Jesus' birth (in a barn in a township that was under the Apartheid Roman government that said His daddy had to be in), up to and including the circumstances surrounding Jesus' death on a cross, a Roman cross, a public lynching Italian-style...

...

His enemies had their opinions about Him. The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans. His enemies had their opinions about Him. Pon-ti-us Pi-la-te. Y'all call him "Pontius Pilate." In Italiano, Pontius Pilate looked at the Palestinians as peasants. His enemies had their opinions about Him. His Jewish enemies! Yup, Jesus had enemies among His own people.

Why do people under oppression always seem to turn on each other rather than turning to each other? Could a part of it be the way they are taught to hate themselves and hate each other? What Reuben Fuerstein the Jew and Asa Hilliard the African call "socially mediated learning"

22. My mother said that 90% of what the hosts asked him about, was...
wright? So either my mother lied to me or your username should be liar2pwr or something? I will call her to see if she recalls what all was discussed and in what context. She watches the view regularly and I told her to watch for Obama because I knew he was going to be on. Are you sure that Obama was pushing the wright story or are you just talking out your ass because you life is meaningless and you have nothing better to do? I trust my mothers word and hope youtube or somewhere will post the entire interview so the TRUTH can be told.

24. funny how angry and defensive the Obama supporters are when
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 02:21 PM by 2rth2pwr
they first hear something negative about their candidate, it then turns into a contest as to who can be the most creative in defending him. This time Obama left his defenders in the dust.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080328/ap_on_el_pr/obama_wright

WASHINGTON - White House hopeful Barack Obama suggests he would have left his Chicago church had his longtime pastor, whose fiery anti-American comments about U.S. foreign policy and race relations threatened Obama's campaign, not stepped down.

"Had the reverend not retired, and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying at the church," Obama said Thursday during a taping of the ABC talk show, "The View."

27. Man I have to keep jumping around to you, I am a supporter of...
Dennis Kucinich and fear what Clinton would do to our country. If it were Edwards, Gravel, Dodd, Biden, you name it, I would vote for them over Clinton. Maybe it is your bias that is clouding your vision and trying to turn this into an Obama, Clinton supporters fight?

Again, good luck to you in what ever it is your goal is?

3. But...but...but...aren't garlic noses "typical"?
Ohhhhhh, only white women are typical racists. My thought is to send them all to Aruba where they will be dealt with as Reverend Wright approves.

I love my funny uncle. He says such hateful things, but gosh he's so fun during the holidays.

5. The garlic reference was still gratuitous, though
I'm of Greek descent, and I recognize offensive stereotypes of Mediterranean people when I hear them. As controversies go, it's pretty small potatoes nonetheless.

7. Is "garlic noses" a common insult of Italians?
I've never heard it before and when I did a search on google, I could find no other use of it. So why is the media treating it like some slur?

19. What offends me is that people get enraged...
by words taken out of context.... their outrage
is being manipulated by the media, baiting them,
a la Rush Limbaugh.

Why do you allow yourself to be used that way?

Want the truth? Read REv. Wright's entire eulogy
(where those words are stolen) before you judge!

But I know its sooo much easily, and soo much more
fun to jump to conclusions, and condemn folks...
