Poll question: How close are Clinton's and Obama's stands on the major issues?

How close are Clinton's and Obama's stands on the major issues?

There are some that believe that in politics the closer the political platforms, the more personal factors play a role.

In these cases the smallest differences may be magnified. For a great satire on this see the war between the Lilliput and Blefuscu in Gulliver's Travels over which side of an egg to break at breakfast.

2. I did one of those online candidate preference quizes...
and they came out dead even. I personally think they could probably swap position papers on just about any subject and nobody would notice.

3. The major difference
the most important one is that I don't trust Hillary to do what she says she will do - after having watched the Clinton's say one thing and do another in the WH and watching Hillary side with the GOP time and again in the Senate - not to mention lie at every stage of the primaries I don't think she'd do things much differently than McCain.

4. Very different, as Clinton has no intentions of enacting much of her proposals
Obama does.

Yes the words are similar, but its the intent to follow through on the promises after they've become President thats the difference.

No one associated with the DLC like the Clintons are will enact even half the anti-business platform Hillary has put forward in trying to con voters into supporting her.

6. What difference does it make?
Most people here don't care about the "issues". They care about Obama's preacher and Hillary's trip to Bosnia. They base their vote on flamewars on a political message board, and they call people who don't agree with them names. It's right out of the third grade handbook..

7. Two moderates quibbling...rather savagely.
Neither are a threat to the establishment, and the "change" they trumpet is minimal.

According to that chart Edwards, Clinton and Obama (and Biden) are very close in policy indeed.

11. What issues,
you have to fool me, because I've not heard anything from Clinton
except lies, Bosnia, Ireland, SCHIP, NAFTA, you want me to continue,
that 3am call has definately kept her up that she has become obfuscated.

12. Obama copied much of her policy agenda
then left out key parts, ie health care reform.

Who will he copy from if he wins?

14. Here are 3 issues that jumped out at me
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 01:38 PM by Bongo Prophet
1. cluster bombs used against civilians -Obama against, Clinton for

2. mountaintop removal - Obama against, Clinton for

3. Open Government (transparency) BOTH are "for" -- when asked for specifics, Obama wants meetings to be on webcam or c-span for all to see, as well as having public comment period for all non-emergency legislation. Clinton wants every cabinet to have a blog.

There are others, like how they would fund the college grants, etc, but the main point is that if you spend time to look closely, the differences become more apparent. Download their respective plans and look at past votes - compare and contrast approaches, and yes, even leadership styles. Who is best equipped to bring enough votes to pass these ideas, or to rally the public using the presidential "bully pulpit", to envision how that might play out in the real world.

GD-P is not a good place for information, as the dialog here is, unfortunately, more heat than light.

18. She lies, so it is hard to tell.
Based on the legacy her husband left us with, I'm not sure if what she says she's gonna do would actually be what she's gonna do.

Plus she voted for Iraq and bankruptcy.
