Letter from my parents - Obama conversion story
Received an email from my parents recently, and thought I'd share a part of it. I've changed the proper names to italicized relationships for privacy purposes - we've got some pretty unique names in our family!

Now you are aware that most of the Idaho family are staunch Republicans, aren't you? Cousin H (in her own words) is the only lefty in the bunch, or she thought she was. In fact, one time she said to me "Does my mom know you are a Democrat?"

Anyway, on with my story..........Aunt J said that Obama was coming to the Boise State arena so they decided to go see what all of the hype was about. It holds 13,000 people with standing room for another 1,000. The gates opened at 7 am and the speech was at 9 am. Now this was back in January and the temperature was 17 degrees that morning. Aunt J said that she and Uncle B decided that they would get there at 7 and go in and get a good seat so they could see and hear really well. When they got there the gates were open, the lines were really, really long and they had to wait an hour and a half to get in. Aunt J said that after going clear to Boise at that time of the morning there was no way she was going to leave...so they waited, but she wished that they had dressed warmer. The place filled with 14,000 people and 5,000 were turned away. She said that when Obama came out and looked around, his first words were "They told me there weren't any Democrats in Idaho."

Now remember, Aunt J has never voted for a Democrat in her life, but she told me that listening to him just gave her goose bumps all over. When I ask her if she had told Cousin H that she was voting for him, she said no, and she wasn't going to. She was going to continue to tell her that she was voting for Romney just to listen to Cousin H throw a fit. Anyway, two more votes for Obama from the Republican ranks!!!!

I never would have believed it of this branch of the family. :woohoo:

2. Heheheheh...
I know some rightwing CT types that say they'll vote for Obama if he's the nominee. They voted for Huckabee in the primary.

Shocking stuff... but in a good way. :)

3. Aunt J has a diabolical sense of humor.
She was going to continue to tell her that she was voting for Romney just to listen to Cousin H throw a fit. Anyway, two more votes for Obama from the Republican ranks!!!!

6. They're all pretty funny
Even the Republicans. But Cousin H is a hoot - she's been living in England for the past couple years, and her emails recounting her and her husbands adventures over there always have me crying with laughter.

9. Have a good friend in Idaho
who said the event was incredible. Probably the largest single political event in the state's history.
