Franco has been a dedicated Democrat for years. He campaigned here for Kerry in 2004.

56. That's due to my theory........of keeping it going no matter if there is no "hope" for Clinton!
It goes like this...

The fighting between Dems is being encouraged in part because of McCain's Public Financing problem, which is not a Problem as long as the Dems keep Fighting Each Other......Which may be why Fox, and Scaife, et al are being so nice to Hillary Clinton as of late. Obama is the frontrunner, so it's not gonna work to be nice to him. His lead is big enough, thank you!.....so indeed, they have to try and take him down to the 60% loss level in order to keep the race going beyond April.

Do you know what would happen to McCain if he had to face Obama's fundraising prowess today? It would be a massacre.

So it has been calculated smartly by those who's interest it best serves to delay as long as possible the Dem primaries being decided.....because that's better for John McCain's public financing woes as he can't spend anymore money anyways. If McSame doesn't have to spend anything to incur damage on his opponent, that's better for the Republican party; it makes them stronger, while we spend and spend away at each other.

No wonder Dem in-fighting is being encouraged, and why we have all of these Right Wing commentators being paraded on Television to "comment" on the Democratic Primaries. They are sitting there laughing at us, while we keep having to go to the bank. That's why the Wright controversy is being artificially kept at maximum level, and the speech on Race doesn't count as far as they are concerned. They don't want it to count for anything, and many in the Dem party are playing right along.

Plus the Dem in-fighting appears to be bringing voters over to the GOP side, which is a bi-product that they are welcoming.....and the GOP are waiting with open arms, and know what a difference approx 25% of the AA vote (and after the Richardson Judas remark) maybe 35% of the Hispanic voters.

The media of course loves it for a multitude of reasons (corporate tax rate stay low with a GOP win, as well as a continuation in deregulation so that they can become bigger), one important one being that they are the ones who profit from hard earned Dem money getting into their coffers for advertising big buys that they wouldn't see if things weren't close with Obama and Hilary, and since McCain doesn't have the moula, they'll gladly take Hillary and Obama can fight each other to the death.

We are being hosed, and may have very well been outsmarted or have outsmarted ourselves in many, many ways to date....enough to cost us the election that should have have left the Repugs as road kill. After 8 years of George Bush, we are now working hand in hand with the Republicans in destroying all of our advantages as the Democratic party.

We are truly fucked!

Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 04:15 PM by RamboLiberal
On Pittsburgh TV - and since Pittsburgh is also very close to West Virginia (and many in northern WV are Steelers fans) this will also be playing in WV.

The Bus and Franco are well-loved Steelers and since we're only 2 years removed from Steeler's Super Bowl victory this is great!

Like that they went to one of the few remaining Pittsburgh area steel mills. My late dad used to work for the sister mill of Edgar Thompson (he worked at Irvin Works).

I hope the Obama campaign will air the commercial in Western PA that they are airing in Indiana - it shows Obama in front of a closed, rusting steel mill. Man could people here identify with that!

At the end of the radio show, fans lined up to meet Myron and my brother and I were the last in the line. He kindly greeted every fan and signed autographs. By the time we got to meet Myron, it was just the three of us remaining in the fest tent. He was very nice and did not act like a big shot. He signed my copy of Steelers Digest. He was such a hoot to listen to. I think he gave me more laughs than anyone.

44. 100% score from NARAL:
http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/elections/statements/obama.html

Sen. Barack Obama submitted the following statement upon NARAL Pro-Choice America's request.

"A woman's ability to decide how many children to have and when, without interference from the government, is one of the most fundamental rights we possess. It is not just an issue of choice, but equality and opportunity for all women.

"I have consistently advocated for reproductive choice and will make preserving women's rights under Roe v. Wade a priority as President. I oppose any constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's ruling in this case.

"I believe we must work together to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. I support legislation to expand access to contraception, health information, and preventative services to help reduce unintended pregnancies. That is why I co-sponsored the Prevention First Act of 2007, which will increase funding for family planning and comprehensive sex education that teaches both abstinence and safe sex methods. It will also end insurance discrimination against contraception, improve awareness about emergency contraception, and provide compassionate assistance to rape victims.

"Finally, I support the enactment and enforcement of laws that help prevent violence, intimidation, and harassment directed at reproductive health providers and their patients."

Voting Record:
Sen. Obama received the following scores on NARAL Pro-Choice America's Congressional Record on Choice.
2007: 100 percent
2006: 100 percent
2005: 100 percent

And whaddaya know, he's listed in the link you cite, AND you truncated the quote just before his name was mentioned.

How intellectually honest of you.

"The indictment of Gov. Aníbal Acevedo Vilá, a Democrat, ensnared one of Pennsylvania's most prolific fund-raisers, Robert M. Feldman of Gladwyne. Feldman has brought in more than $1 million for Sen. Bob Casey Jr., Gov. Rendell, former Mayor John F. Street, and former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey."

FYI, the $1 million total is for all of those guys TOGETHER. Rendell alone received nearly $600,000 from him.

ETA: Also, it's spelled PUERTO RICO, not "Porta", as in Port-A-Potty.

70. This Steeler fan figures this will sure help this half of state
This even helps in to West Virginia since Steelers are also big in northern half of WV and Pittsburgh TV extends down that far. As to PA I figure there are Steeler fans all in the Western half of the state up to Erie and out past Altoona to State College and even to Harrisburg which is probably where we start to see the split between Eagles and Steelers fans.

And what a brilliant move to stop at one of the few remaining steel plants in Pittsburgh area. Also Edgar Thompson abuts a very devastated community in Braddock.

IMHO this bus tour is going to get Obama better local coverage than the Clintons to this junction. And nice strategy since the Obama ads went up earlier in week on TV in this area and the campaign has bought quite a bit of coverage.

I'm predicting with the Casey endorsement which should help with the blue collar Dems in this part of the state that even though Clinton will win I bet it will be a single digit victory margin. And Obama could possibly pull off an upset.

I'm SO excited about this bus tour. People here in Philly have started getting a bit "grumbly". Philadelphians are used to being catered to a bit more than they have been thus far. And a bus tour across the state (ending in Philly) is THE BEST way to address this.

139. Look up Murtha's voting record
Then get back to us.

Oh, and Bob Casey was never investigated for corruption like Murtha...

131. Yeah but Franco Harris is no Dick Butkis so he doesn't matter.
And Jerome Bettis is no Jim McMahon, he doesn't matter either.

:)

134. Awesome Pix
2 things

Barack is tall .... look @ him next to Harris & Bettis

the pix w/ the Steel workers are great

Hillary's help w/ NAFTA and her Bosnia war "story" will hurt
her with PA's blue collar vote & vets.

Bob Casey helps w/ the Catholic vote too.

Spent lots of time there as a kid - very depressed area now, I think. And I've always loved Franco Harris, even though I'm from Cleveland (*blasphemy*),

144. Great shots!! My dad, grandfather and two uncles all
worked/retired from ET (Edgar Thompson) works in Braddock. Wish they were alive to see this. My Dad would have supported Edwards, but I think this would have made him proud.

158. Fabulous pictures.
What great pictures of obama and the steel workers. I love the one where he's getting up from kneeling and the one guy is helping him and the other is reaching towards him.

Thanks so much for sharing them with us. Added this to my Obama Stories bookmark collection.
