New Hampshire turning against Hillary
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 03:33 PM by Hope And Change
Fair-weather friends: The Clintons cut NH loose

15 hours, 46 minutes ago

REALLY, there are no permanent Friends of Bill. For the former President and his wife, a tandem of duplicity and ambition unrivaled in American history, there are only temporary alliances. New Hampshire is learning this now, as so many others have before.

Ever since Bill Clinton proclaimed himself "the Comeback Kid" for his second-place finish in the 1992 New Hampshire Democratic primary, he has portrayed himself as a stalwart defender of New Hampshire and its first-in-the-nation tradition. He championed this state's retail politics as a model for the nation and made sure he maintained his ties here in preparation for his wife's inevitable future presidential run.

Those relationships paid off handsomely in January, when Hillary Clinton, who had spent more than a year fawning over New Hampshire's great electoral traditions, won here with the strong backing of the Democratic Party establishment.

Now, having used New Hampshire as the launching pad for both of their presidential bids, the Clintons have no more use for us. And so it was that on Monday, Bill Clinton threw New Hampshire and our Democratic Secretary of State Bill Gardner under the proverbial bus.

To justify his claim that Florida and Michigan delegates should be seated at the Democratic National Convention, the former President said, "We let New Hampshire go out of turn. They had a Democratic secretary of state. The Florida voters are totally innocent. They asked to vote on time."

3. Nope, the Democratic Party didn't do so well during the Clinton years.
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 03:04 PM by anonymous171
Sure we had the presidency, but at the expense of seats in the house and senate. We basically set ourself up for the Bush years where we had a Repug president, repug congress, and repug senate.

18. It was absolutely a tie, no depending about it
Not to mention, they also told Obama poll watchers it was illegal for them to be in the precincts, which as a lie, and made it difficult for Obama's gotv effort. The Clintons left NH in shreds, which may cost Jeanne Shaheen the Senate election.

7. As an Obama supporter, I wish I could say that was a good piece.
The author echoed alot of my sentiments on the issue. However, I can't get over the fact that it came from The Union Leader, one of the worst right-wing rags in the country.

17. RW, but they fiercely defend the primary
The one area where the UL puts ideology aside is the primary. They have always been supportive of both Sec. of State Bill Gardner (D-Manchester) and State Rep. Jim Splaine (D-Portsmouth) for their leadership in defending NH's role in the process.

8. The Clintons already got what they wanted from my state.
We saved Hillarys campaign. We did their bidding. But they know they wont beat McCain here in the GE, so under the bus we go!

16. Do you really think NH will vote for McCain?
I don't think so. But then again, I thought Obama would win the Primary.

21. Yes I do.
And as far as the primary... I feel strongly that Hillarys "emotional" moment cost Obama the state. I wouldnt have bet one penny that NH wasnt going to go for Obama. But after 24 hours of Hillarys misty eyes, and Bill apologizing for not being able to make her a "younger" "man". Women ran to her defense as if she was a 3 year old.

Clinton doesnt play with indies here. But McCain and Obama do. We were *barely* blue with Kerry... remember? I can't see any way she could win our state.

For reference: I live on the seacoast.

Not trying to be rude, I just entirely do not understand what you're trying to say. It's as if I just read "fleas may jump, but lemons only float in June".
