"White Man's Greed"
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 03:59 PM by hell-bent
It appears that Obama's very first service at Wright's church was controversial! This is in an article appearing in Slate today. Wright's sermon at Obama's very first service, highlighted in his book and his 3/18 speech as an epiphanal moment, was controversial and objectionable enough. And it didn't make him leave the church. It made him join the church. At least a bit of self-criticism seems in order. ... [via Instapundit This is a must read for all Democratic voters....http://www.slate.com/id21873581? If the link to Slate doesn't work try this: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/democratic_presidential_nomination-191.html It's the fourth article down by Mickey Kaus

"via Instapundit This is a must read for all Democratic voters"

Why should Democratic voters give a fuck about what wackball Instapunkin has to say?

Link is broken, by the way.

I call it arrogance.

Important topic. I'm glad it was part of a sermon. Must of been a good one.

23. More on Kaus: "Kaus has identified himself as neoliberal...
... Nevertheless, liberals like Paul Krugman and J. Bradford DeLong believe that Kaus is no longer a neoliberal but rather a neoconservative, which they indicate by calling him a Rhinoceros, from Eugene Ionesco's play of that name." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Kaus

Apparently, Obama was very moved by Wright's sermon about "white man's greed"! In his book, he said he wept after hearing it. That's what made him join the church. Now, of course he is refuting that inflammatory rhetoric by Wright so as not to distance himself from the average white voter. Come on BO, tell it like it is and let the chips fall where they may. This is the kind of stuff that will be facing Obama should he get the nomination. And, MSNBC and the Tweety Bird will be salivating over this kind of information. The Swift-boaters will have a field day! P.S. I will vote for Obama if he is the nominee. However, I know it will be in vain. He is toxic like Hillary. Except the Clinton's know how to fight the dirty fight. She will beat McCain.

Do you actually believe what individuals put in their profiles? I am a neuro-surgeon at the age of 26 years. I have 5 children that are all gifted. I live in Beverly Hills, California. My lineage goes back to George Washington. Is that enough information? P.S. I believe in aliens from outer space. :tinfoilhat:

Kerry was a loser and now you have chosen another loser. Both are good men who don't know how to play the game like the Clintons. What do you want, another noble cause losing to a Repuke? Or, a proven "down in the trenches" kind of political fighter? I guess you want more of the Bush crapola.

40. I did not choose Kerry, D primary voters did, what Kerry Gore & Clinton have in common is egghead
policy wonks with no charisma

Hillary was unlikeable going in. And she has become more unlikeable.

Charisma isn't handed out evenly. Reality bites.

If Hillary is so great of a political fighter, why is it that Obama is beating her at her game.

12. Do you think that greed is limited to only the "white man"?
Perhaps it is more common since the white man has been in power in most situations. But, is that greed illustrated in the emerging Black countries of Africa? I don't think that greed is solely a genetic trait of the "white man". Do you think it is a genetic trait of all white people? Or, is found in the "powerful"?

15. Well, he didn't say some "white man's greed".
It appears that he implicated all white men, and Obama agreed with that sentiment because he quickly joined the church. Does Obama think that all white men possess the sin of greed? Obama can't win the GE without the white vote. Is this the way to win over those greedy white folk? Think about how all this stuff will be brought up by the Rethugs. I don't think he is electable. BTW, is there a bit of greed in the way the Obamas purchased their property from a known unsavory character? He admitted it was a mistake.

Apparently, "black greed"overcame their better judgment and the Obamas decided they wanted that half of the lot that Rezko's wife owned. He has admitted that was a mistake dealing for that property with a questionable character. Has the special Kool-Aid dumbed your senses?

37. Mugabe and his power elite for example
That said - I do realize that colonialism has a big part to play in the story of that poor country's present plight.

However, other things being equal white people are greedy in about the same proportion as black people. There have perhaps been disproportionate opportunity for some white people to act on that greed in egregious ways.

35. Ghastly thought of another preacher-in-chief
I realize that it is very intolerant of me to be highly skeptical about the deeply religious but unfortunately it is a mistrust that comes from experience. There are exceptions. Jimmy Carter for example was born-again but he had and has a deeply inclusive world view. But in general these religious folk and the born again variety are worrisome.

A minor typo but the man needed a checker and an editor. As well as a more inclusive point of view.
I like the bit about political b-s land.

And again the sermon is fine except for the gratuitous racism and stereotyping.
Is that typical in a black person? (Not in my experience.)

Obama would have been much better off finding socialism than getting himself born again. Just a personal pov.

Too bad he turned his back on his roots.

"and I would think about OUR OWN PEOPLE - and I would think about those who need help...THAT'S what this campaign is about!" and

Who Said This?

"I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was integrating myself to whites,"

"I found solace in a sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race,"

"The other race (White) would always remain just that: Menacing, Alien and Apart,"

"It was into my father's image, the Black man, the son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself,"

"That hate hadn't gone away, blaming white people,"

"My grand mother was a typical white person."

Those prayer cells she attends are a perfect example of white man's greed and his inferiority complex, translated into his "beliefs" with Biblical trappings, all lies and illusions that assure him that his make-believe god appointed him master of the universe.

45. A little context, from a perhaps unexpected source....

And one other thing I think we've gotta remember. As easy as it is for those of us who are white, to look back and say "That's a terrible statement!"...I grew up in a very segregated south. And I think that you have to cut some slack -- and I'm gonna be probably the only Conservative in America who's gonna say something like this, but I'm just tellin' you -- we've gotta cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told "you have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie. You have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant. And you can't sit out there with everyone else. There's a separate waiting room in the doctor's office. Here's where you sit on the bus..." And you know what? Sometimes people do have a chip on their shoulder and resentment. And you have to just say, I probably would too. I probably would too. In fact, I may have had more of a chip on my shoulder had it been me.

How egotistical, to only consider the portion of the message that mentions whites to encapsulate the sermon, and how idiotic.

Thanks for helping spread right-wing smears.
