Yes, I've Waffled. So, Sue Me. |
|
My God, you think it has been easy for some of us to narrow down to one candidate what was a very enticing and formidable group of candidates?
What is so wrong with having struggled for many months to choose one candidate?
Furthermore, I never, ever had tried to conceal the fact that I have struggled to make a choice.
First I was for Gore, who never ran. Then I was strongly (very strongly) for Joe Biden, who is still my favorite.
Then I was for Edwards, who suspended his campaign.
Then I was for both Clinton and Obama equally.
And this week I moved firmly into Obama's camp.
Yes, I have had incredible internal conflict and struggle trying to decide who to vote for. I don't take this election lightly.
But please don't think that having changed opinions means that we are anything other than die-hard, devoted and dedicated members of the Democratic party that we love.
This year was very unusual. We had an embarrassment of riches, and some of us (at least me) fantasized heavily about a Gore presidency. It has been emotionally turbulent. So PLEASE give those of us who were not certain until recently (or who still are not certain) a break.
Thanks.

could never fault a voter for being cautious - only for choosing poorly.
(You've chosen well)

4. Just don't switch from Clinton to anyone else, they'll hit-and-run you and throw you under the bus. |
|
Otherwise, I feel you.
I was originally for Kerry. Then Clark/Gore.
Then Edwards for a year.
Then Hillary.
Now Obama.

13. Let them label you something, and stalk you around. |
|
And talk about you viciously in their cult forum where they bash DU.

6. Welcome to the Obama Camp!!! |
|
It's been hard to decide for many of us. I was glad to see such a strong field too. I didn't really know Obama until after Edwards dropped out because I was more focussed on Edwards. He's our home town guy, even though I wasn't sure. His positions changed completely from those he had as our senator. Now I'm completely behind Obama. I was never a Clinton supporter, though I will vote for her if she is the nominee. I think Obama's got the best chance in the GE and I feel he has a unique ability to unite people and improve our standing in the international community.
I'm glad to have you aboard. Don't let any of the naysayers get you down! :D

9. That's surprising that anyone would give you a hard time about this. |
|
Almost everyone I know has watched between one and four of their preferred candidates drop out before reaching this point. I'm on candidate number three, myself.
If anyone gives you a hard time about this, tel them Mooney says to go drink a gallon of Santorum!

11. I respect you and have followed your posts during this process. |
|
However, there are a few people here who have posted outrageous declarations about one candidate or the other (or even the one that never gets talked about) which declare their undying love/hate. Then post the opposite thing a few days later. Harmless really and most likely for the attention. But if they get called for "waffling", that's the reason why.
That's not the same thing as what you do.

15. I went Gore, Kucinich, Edwards, either/or and then Obama |
|
I still don't think Hillary would be a disaster. I still think she'd make a decent president but I think Obama has the potential to be one of the great ones.

17. There's nothing wrong with waffling in this race. It's a mess. |
|
When I voted in the primaries in Texas, I really went to vote for local candidates. I hovered over the presidential candidates because I didn't know what button to press. Edwards was out, but I strongly considered voting for him anyway to register a protest vote. I'm really affected by the hopes and dreams of elderly people; people are living history to me. A part of me wanted to vote for Obama because of some elderly African Americans in my neighbor who are so excited about the symbolism of his candidacy. But the neighborhood church they attend preaches an anti-gay message, and considering that I feel Obama's has candidacy aggravated (and manipulated) tensions between the two intersecting communities, I went from being mildly hopeful about his campaign to utterly pissed off. My partner's 80 year old grandmother is so excited about the symbolism of Hillary's candidacy, I wanted to push the button for her, but I voted against Clinton as my senator in 2006. It was hard to imagine voting for her as president. I don't like her positions at all. I also don't like Obama's positions.
I literally felt like I was voting for the lesser of two evils, but the lesser of two evils whose candidacy meant a great deal to groups I do care about. In the end, the deciding factor for me was the nastiness of a great portion of Obama's supporters at DU during the McClurkin incident and after, as well as the fact that I felt that in Clinton I was voting for an evil I knew, as opposed to an evil I didn't know. The entire experience left me pretty depressed and, after 20 years, I'm looking for a new party. And if a new party isn't possible, then a new political method altogether.
I don't blame you at all. Waffling in this campaign is probably a sign of being rational.
