and he's been in the lead since Iowa. So I think we have a pretty clear front-runner.

because it says nothing so well. Besides, McCain is in no position to suggest that someone is "less" American than he is--he was born in the Panama Canal Zone!

Use Truth Card: Altruistic Terms always best

Common Sense Card: If its Broken...fix it with New/Solutions ...not continuing with the OLD way...

25. We get our own candidate as soon as possible. Then we fight this
on the basis of age, shadow governments, corporate power and other issues that hit home for many people. I am younger than he is and when I ask myself if I could govern I get a resounding NO. When I think of reagun with alzheimer's for most of his term I realize that the people (shadow government) that was running the country then were never elected and not even accountable and that this is also true of *ss and Co. I shudder to realize I no longer have control of my government. Then I ask who that shadow government is accountable to and I come up with corporate power, excessive corporate power that is interested only in their own bottom line. These are things that the people recognize. Also I would not hesitate to remind the people about the outcome of the Hoover era when government did nothing and set by while the world as we knew it crumbled. We have strong issues - we have no one to put them forth until we have a strong candidate. We cannot afford to wait - their horse is already racing down the track.

53. I want to caputre that "looking back" bit somehow.
You know, something like "looking back = regressive" "looking back = waiting for 'Daddy' ('God' forgive me for profaning my father's memory!) to come along and save your irresponsible weak ass".

The meme would be something like "John McCain the American pResident who childish, immature, irresponsible Americans have been waiting for to save them from the consequences of their own behavior" but of course that's too long.

John McCain the American Enabler who American Oil Addicts have been waiting for. . . do Americans know what an enabler is?

29. It a ridiculous meme - counter with humor, at least
If you read it once you get a fuzzy patriotic feeling. But a minute later...what does it mean? It seems to say that Americans have been waiting for an American like McCain to run for ages. All those other presidents just didn't cut it - Bush Jr & Senior, Reagan, JFK, FDR, Roosevelt, Lincoln, etc. Only now do we have the opportunity to vote for a real American president. How lucky are we? But then again - why did we have to wait, why did we have to wait until the guy is so old to run...

How about a good account of what America did while it was waiting for McCain, and then the sheer oldness and forgetfulness of the guy finally showing up to run. Again, it is a pretty sorry meme.

52. I'm going to share that with a guy who has a life-size Emperor George
without any clothes, which he brings to our street-corner meetings (if that's okay with you, Swampy). My friend is very much into satirical signs.

He brought Emperor George along yesterday when we met with an independent group of about 100 20-somethings near one of our most popular malls (near a stop-light with excellent visibility from 3 of the 4 directions). The traffic honked more and longer than I can ever remember; it was exstatic! (probably had somethig to do with the youngsters' friends and families - but impressive to onlookers nonetheless.)

Solidarity, Swamp Rat!

46. It's already a big Dem talking point. I heard it several times Thursday and Friday.
Howard Dean said it on GMA. And a guy from Center for American Progress also said it (on Tweety's show).

This line works real gooood. It leaves the pubs sputtering and defensive. All they can come back with is "maverick" and "POW in Vietnam." Hell, there's a whole generation who don't know what the hell they're talking about when they use those terms. Those words don't have real meaning in people's lives TODAY. And if you've noticed, McCain said absolutely nothing about helping the economy and he needed help on foreign policy (supposedly his strong suit?).

I think McCain is a train wreck in the making...maybe that's what Americans have been waiting for!

49. McCain's Mom Told the Press That Voters Were Going to Have to "Hold Their Nose"
McMom: 'Hold Nose' and Vote

Asked if her son can go on to be the G.O.P.'s nominee, Roberta McCain said, "Yes, I think holding their nose, they're going to have to take him."

"I'm really popping off," Mother McCain added, "but he worked like a dog to get Bush re-elected. . . . He's backed Bush in everything except Rumsfeld. Have you heard other senators and congressmen backing Bush over eight years? Find me it--give me a name. I've not seen any public recognition of the work that he's done for the Republican Party."
