7. Here's an idea: why don't you try posting something besides childish crap?
You might find yourself being put on ignore less frequently.

11. I just don't understand what posters like this hope to accomplish
They just go on ignore, no one responds to them, and they end up doing the online equivalent of talking to the wall.

Why would someone like that even bother joining a discussion forum?

3. Excuse me while I take a moment...
My father, Dewey F. Ray, was an editor for the Christian Science Monitor for 20+ years. He found a home there after being pursued from one newspaper to another by the Newhouse family for his leadership in a labor action in Portland, OR in 1958. As the chains bought dailies throughout the country one of the first things they did was to fire Dewey Ray.

He was the first non-CS'er to be an editor at the Monitor, and he loved that paper. It makes me very proud to see that they continue to pursue excellence in journalism. With all the kvetching about the 'main stream media' I think it's important to remember that there used to be a lot of journalists around, and that there are still a few.

Dewey F. Ray passed away December 2, 2007. In the days before he died some of the last coherent conversations we had were about the presidential contest this year. He was pissed that he wouldn't last to the Oregon primary, let alone to the GE.

He supported Barack Obama.

(We now return you to the ongoing food fight at DU...)

4. nice memorial statement... as a former newspaper editor,
I agree that there are more good people in journalism than we sometimes realize or acknowledge. The CSM is a fine newspaper, respected around the world. Like all other newspapers, except the profit-hungry chains, it is struggling. I hope it finds a voice in the post-paper world of the future.

5. Thanks for sharing your dad's story...
it's such a rarity these days to hear about those who practiced journalism as an honorable profession.

6. Thanks for providing these links...
A very innovative, and potentially insightful way to analyze the electorate. It will be very interesting to see how their characterization of each region plays out in terms of voting behavior come November.

9. yikes, that's a pretty ignorant statement....
you might look into the religion a bit before taking such a strong stance. I am not CS, but I understand the origin of the name and the basic philosophical stance behind it.

12. CSM is one of the finest papers in the world
The origins, in the Christian Science movement, are neither here nor there.

A separate matter; where you decry any involvement of Christianity specifically, and religion in general, in science is plain ignorance. Pierre Tielhard de Chardin, Gregor Mendel, Sir Bernard Lovell, Erasmus Darwin are fine examples of the contrary argument.

Please edit your foolish post.
