The Hillary Deathwatch

A great day for Obama means a nasty day for Hillary.
By Chadwick Matlin
Posted Friday, March 28, 2008, at 5:28 PM ET

Friday was not kind to Hillary Clinton. Based on Deathwatch's top-secret morbidity formula, Hillary tanked on four metrics today, reducing her chances of winning the nomination by 1.7 points to 10.3 percent.

The nastiest news for Clinton is in the polls. She has drifted eight points behind Obama in a national Gallup survey—the first time that she has trailed Obama by a statistically significant margin since the Rev. Wright imbroglio. Every point she loses in the national polls pushes her a bit closer to Davy Jones' locker.

In Pennsylvania, she suffered a setback in her efforts to win endorsements and superdelegates when Sen. Bob Casey endorsed Obama even though he said he was staying neutral in the race. Casey comes from a long political lineage that is well-known in the eastern part of the state and among Catholic Pennsylvanians. Rubbing salt in the wound, Obama said he didn't even court Casey's support—he entered the House of Obama on his own volition.

Meanwhile, Sen. Patrick Leahy—an Obama supporter—called for Clinton's withdrawal yesterday but then removed his foot from his mouth and backed off the assertion today, saying it's a decision "that only she can make." Even though he dialed back his original statement, it adds another high-profile voice to the growing din that Clinton is doing more harm than good by sticking around. Chris Dodd—another Obama devotee—has made similar comments.

Clinton fundraising problem?

Posted: Saturday, March 29, 2008 11:56 AM by Chuck Todd

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann and NBC's Chuck Todd
Check out this line from today's Bill Clinton-signed fundraising email for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign: "We're facing a big deadline on Monday. Our opponents and the media will scrutinize our fundraising reports and look for any sign of weakness. By making a contribution today, you can help make sure we show nothing but strength."

Of course, the campaign could be playing an expectations game.

1. Stop blaming others
It was Hillary's decision to run her campaign like President Bush runs this country.

3. I think that's the point he's trying to bring out.
In other words, it ain't the GOP dragging Wright through the gutter, technically at least.

4. Maybe, maybe not
Presenting facts without comment opens one up to questioning. That's all I'm doing here.

9. Still too vague
Is the poster a Clinton supporter? A neutral party? An observer? We don't know.

14. So you responded to the title? The second line is "still too vague"? How about the third line?

21. Pointless
I don't like reading posts with titles like that if there's no substance from the author.

23. On second thought, let me point out that they all have in put from me. For example
The Clinton camp seems to believe that if Bill ever did anything for you, no matter how insignificant or opportunistic, you now owe Hillary...

Still, too many opinions and not enough facts being thrown around, and often the latter is a distortion of the former.

8. Thanks, but not sure why
the assumption is that I'm a male?

A lot of women, me included, don't want Hillary to be the candidate.

6. The truth is she has run a terrible campaign, and that doesn't give me much confidence
if she wins the Democratic nomination

I will vote without hesitation for WHOEVER the Democratic nominee is, but I sure haven't been impressed by her campaign thus far

16. She should have considered that Penn worked on Leiberman's 2004
Presidential run and he actually was saying in late 2003 that Leiberman would win.

11. More ProSense Drama of Pointless Rhetoric
The most vile Rove tactic is when we have one democrat call another democrat Karl Rove. You sure do love hysterical rhetoric don't you ProSense or should I say NoSense?

19. Here is the reality of the scenarios Hillary has been pushing:
of a revote in Florida and MI:

Actual Popular Vote Total
Obama 13,355,239 (+717,276)
Hillary 12,637,963

FL
Obama 576,214
Hillary 870,986
Total votes 1,447,200

Popular Vote (w/FL)
Obama 13,931,453 (+422,504)
Hillary 13,508,949

MI
Clinton 328,151
Uncommitted 237,762

Popular Vote (w/FL and MI)
Obama 13,931,453 (+94,195)
Clinton 13,837,258

Let's say Obama got the uncommitted MI votes

Popular Vote (w/FL and MI)
Obama 14,169,215 (+331,957)
Clinton 13,837,258

In these scenarios Obama is clearly ahead, even with no MI votes going to him.

Even if there were a revote in MI and FL she would not get more than 58% of the MI and 60% of the FL vote as indicated above. In fact, she stands to lose ground.

She can't win!

I hate to see all the rhetoric and !!!'s you are going to post when she comes out of the convention the nominee. You know about the convention right? where both Obama and Clinton will have to go in this race to earn the nomination?

playbook when she had her "Shame on you Barack Obama" moment on national TV. I agree, that is vile.

24. well i guess we're going to have to agree
that both sides are vile. because Camp Obama has thrown around both the Rove accusations and the Rove tactics too many times to be clean of this whole mess.

not have Hillary look as bad as her campaign made her look by projecting her flaws onto Obama.
