13. I still can't get over Wright
I thought it'd destroy him, I really did. I cried that Friday the story broke. lol. In the end, it actually helped him and to quote Martha Stewart "and that's a good thing."

He's come a long way from that 49-42 deficit he had to Clinton on the day he delivered the speech.

142. The Thing is...
The thing about Obama is, I think that people will have to stop manufacturing dramas for him to have to respond to. Because every single time they try to throw something at him, it just gives him an opportunity to speak. And when he speaks, that's it. It's over. He handles himself so brilliantly and so beautifully, that whatever the negative was actually turns to a positive.

To anyone who feels he won't be able to win the General Election because of Wright, I don't see this as a valid concern. The Wright issue has been out there now for weeks. They've rehashed this again and again and Obama has STILL rebounded from it. I don't see McCain being stupid enough to try to run this in ads later on this year because Obama has already handled this and survived.

That last huge Obama sample will roll off the average. If it stays high, it means a new one came on and this is possibly a trend. If it decreases by a good bit, then we know it was just noise.

Just when I thought it was as bad as it could be, she outdoes herself and does even worse. I have never seen anything like Hillary's list of incredibles....

But one thing I have come to predict with certainty....there will be another ding bat thing she or her campaign comes up with next week.

72. Agreed. It's rarely ever single "scandals" that do a candidate in,
unless they're total Marion Barry-esque dealbreakers, but those don't come up all that often.

More likely it's just the aggregate effect of HRC's campaign style over the last few weeks. I think people are just getting tired of her. And that's not a problem that improves with time.

Hillary Clinton has every right to continue campaigning, but that doesn't mean that the average person won't get sick of her. And to be honest, it seems like a narrative is starting to emerge that she's losing, and I think it's beginning to take hold. Sniper-gate on its own wouldn't be enough to end her campaign --- I think the damage from that has already been done --- but it just kind of helps to darken the atmosphere around her.

What ends campaigns is when the coffers dry up, and the coffers always dry up when there's a slow but unrelenting decline in popularity. Most failed campaigns don't flame out spectacularly. They die slow, gradual deaths. they don't die in car accidents, they die of terminal illnesses.

77. It seems like two narratives have emerged, and have taken hold.
1. The narrative that she's the one drawing things out, and;

2. The narrative that she's the one who's behind.

That's a bad combination. If she could turn that into a narrative where she's a scrappy underdog, then that would work in her favor, but it's not happening. You can't convincingly make the case that you're the scrappy underdog when for most of 2007 she was the presumed frontrunner. It doesn't work.

Someone yesterday was saying that the next poll would show his lead shrinking because they thought the lack of change between the last two indicated that it was just a momentary bump.

I've been reluctant to get too optimistic, for obvious reasons, but it is looking like a good trend in the making.

And I thought his lead would shrink because the poll was taken right during "sniper-gate" and people would forget about it or forgive her for it. Maybe I was wrong and this is going to stick while Obama's positive way of dealing with a negative is shining through!

152. True, but there's also a difference between The Pastor and The Sniper
One is guilt by association. The other is a fully disprovable outright lie by the candidate. One should hurt more than the other, and it appears to have done so. Honestly, I don't remember any politician being caught so blatantly in a lie during a primary contest. I've seen it a few times in office, but not a primary. I'm probably forgetting some good ones though.

you're exactly right! I can't believe she's not getting MORE criticism and SOME people are letting her get away with her nonsensical "misspoke" excuse. How could inventing a story and repeating it over and over be "misspeaking"? Like Obama's camp said, that's not misspeaking-it's misleading.

This won't go away for Hillary.

It's not about who she associates herself with like pastorgate, it's about her core creditability.

The only way she can explain it away is if she makes the case that she has dual personalities, which maybe she does.

Not a good quality trait for your resume and becoming President.

66. More serious numbers
How does each one stack up against Sen. McCain? Admittedly, it's too early for those numbers to really matter now (for one thing, McCain could still drop out, or even die, before he's nominated by the Republicans--though those possibilities are unlikely), but some consideration must be given to nominating an electable candidate.

Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 03:42 AM by FatDave
The gap is now within 10-13 points. And those are numbers from before he even started campaigning there (most recent is 3/27). So I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up (still a major longshot), but Pennsylvania is looking better and better to me.

On edit: If I had to make a prediction, I would say what we'll see on the graph above is a leveling of Hillary's numbers (due in large part to snipergate) and a rise in Obama's (due to his ground game). I don't know that either will be drastic enough for an upset, but neither one is yet reflected in these polls.

on TV is the "28% of HRC supporters would vote for McCain before Obama, and 19% of BHO supporters would vote for McCain before Clinton."

Really, now? That poll seems at least a week old, and yet these three Gallup polls showing Obama's largest lead ever haven't even been discussed.

....THE MSM WANTS TO PERPETUATE THE IDEA THAT IT IS A TIGHT RACE.

THEY ALSO NEVER TALK ABOUT......

HOW UNLIKELY IT IS FOR HER TO CATCH UP IN THE POPULAR VOTE EVEN IF FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN ARE COUNTED AS IS.

HOW SHE IS LIKELY TO LOSE WHAT SHE GAINS IN PA IN N.C.

HOW THE MOST RECENT INDIANA POLLS SHOW OBAMA WITH A HEALTHY LEAD IN THE STATE.

HOW THE SUPERDELEGATES ARE NOT LIKELY TO OVERTURN THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE BECAUSE IT WOULD BE A POLITICAL DISASTER.

116. Keith just mentioned the latest daily tracking poll having Obama leading by 10,
Edited on Sun Mar-30-08 07:18 PM by jenmito
but it was 42 to 32. He said it was the GALLUP national daily tracking poll from 3/27-3/29! So it can't be the poll from my OP but it's still a 10 point lead!

numbers/dates, and the one Rasmussen PA poll from 3/24 has Obama down by only 10! So thanks for that! :hi:

124. Completely irrelevant to topic, and outdated by a week or more.
They're all a week or more old, and this new trend of post-snipergate and post-pelosi-threats could show completely different fortune in the polls next week.

Clinton was +7 or +5 in the Gallup when those polls were taken. Now she's -10.

138. The golden rule strategy
What a concept for political policy... Its simple really.. all you need is a heart that truly cares for others, a willingness to work to better the lives of others, a mind that thinks of the good in others, and a mouth to communicate what is in your heart...

Barack Obama has been successful in doing these things and that is why 20,000 people came out on a Sunday afternoon today to see him...

That is why I encourage you to vote for Obama, and join a movement sweeping accross this country that will change the world...

To all of the media smear campaigners, and anyone else who wants to make yet another mountain out of a mole-hill. I DON"T GIVE A RAT"S ASS HOW BARACK'S FATHER GOT TO THIS COUNTRY OR WHO PAID FOR HIM TO GET HERE, OR WHEN FOR THAT MATTER. The latest attempt by the "Hey Barack lies too"! bullshit artists. Give it up, it's a non-issue, like the Rev. Wright junk.

168. THANK YOU HILLARY------>
I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE PROTRACTED FIGHT BETWEEN OBAMA AND HILLARY IS BAD FOR THE DEMOCRATS, OR FOR THE COUNTRY

...EVERY ISSUE WHICH MCCAIN WOULD EVENTUALLY VET IS COMING OUT, AND OBAMA HAS HAD TIME TO NOTE THESE AND RESPOND TO EACH OF THEM..... THEY ARE BECOMING OLD NEWS

it is supposed to be a "fight" and i do wish it was kept "fair and balanced" BUT the truth of it is, the GOP is going to try to get more dirty, more evil, and more underhanded....

LOOK AT ALL OF THE AIR-TIME AND NAME RECOGNITION OBAMA IS GETTING

ALL OF THE TIME TO ATTRACT REPUGS AND INDIs

-----BEFORE THE INFIGHTING STARTED, SOME MIGHT CALL OBAMA A "NOVICE"...
--------SHE HAS FORCED HIM TO GROW
-----------HILLARY KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT... WHAT DOES NOT BRING OBAMA DOWN MAKES HIM STRONGER

185. Her behaviour has soured my die-hard Hillary supporting family
in a big way.

The lies about Bosnia really bothered them but it was her reaction to getting caught that put them over the edge. What surprised me the most was how they gravitated to Obama. Not one defended her at all this time. Sunday dinner this week was a shocker.
