I'm headed to Target to buy stuff |
|
And not buy stuff sold by Walmart, or by members of their board, stuff I need, some food at great prices, prescriptions, maybe a DVD. ALL because Target supports MY community and the arts AND pays a living wage.
And I don't give a fuck about people who shop at Walmart. Let them melt in the sun like their stores.

I think they would have their nasty stuff, what with being a corporation and all, but they seem nicer than average corporate enterprises. Maybe it's because they're a French corporation?
Their TV commercials are among the most exciting I've seen on TV. Very creative and edgy.

3. Check the labels at Target |
|
Their stuff comes from the exact same places as Walmart stuff. Walmart supports the community. Entry level retail workers no longer have the kind of wages and benefits they did ten years ago. So don't break your arm patting yourself on the back, you're not that much better than a Walmart shopper.

6. Target's goods are of a higher quality. |
|
But they are still made by the same people who make the goods for Walmart in China.

7. Do you have a Costco nearby? |
|
My first choice, for several reasons you cited (they pay a living wage, they support the community, they provide benefits for their employees, AND the price is right) but also, they are supporters of the Democratic party. Both Target and Wal-Mart support the Repugs.

10. I didn't know that about Costco -- thanks! |

EDIT to add: I belonged to Costco in Seattle and loved it. Incredible bakery, by the way. The only problem was their prices were so enticing, you'd go in for toilet paper and wind up buying a rowboat or something.

I live 5 minutes from my job and don't go out much anymore, nor to church, so I need something: Close Organic as much as possible With aggressive push for American made goods.
Local greens grocers, artisans, and crafters are all of the way downtown near the river. They'd be best, but they're too far away and too many people are STILL - STUPIDLY - fighting mass transit proposals around here.

24. YES, I go when I get my bonus every three months |
|
Living alone makes it difficult to buy huge quantities of anything. By the time I use them up, they usually go stale. Target's prices on dry goods and frozen foods are the best around, so unless I'm buying veggies or fruit or meats (turkey, fish, etc) I go to target, and shop at the local Foodtown in my town.

we buy our coffee there- at least $2 less than at the supermarket (Starbucks ground coffee). Also, yogurt, and asorted odds and ends (eggs, milk, frozen veggies, catfood). The prices are lower than the supermarket.

bag it yourself place that stomps all over Target's prices.
My only point is I don't consider Target's food prices a great deal.
Perhaps it just depends on where one lives.
But I wasn't mocking your budget situation.

Proctor and Gamble products sold at Target, or any other retail outlet, are probably made and packaged in the US or Canada. EVERY SINGLE P&G product sold at Walmart is made in China. The formulation and package sizes of the products are different in order to meet Walmart's price point.
Rubbermaid does a similar thing. They have factories, mostly in China, dedicated specifically for their products sold at Walmart with quality and size being dictated by Walmart's rules and price point. A Rubbermaid garbage can sold at Walmart is of a lower quality than a Rubbermaid garbage can sold anywhere else.
My uncle is a hot shot with P&G that deals exclusively with Walmart. A close friend from HS that I still correspond with works for Rubbermaid's Key Account division and works exclusively with Walmart. It's my understanding that this is true for MOST products sold at Walmart.

Cat litter, pasta on sale, Oreo cookies for $2.24 a bag, wet cat and dog food, cereal (great prices every day) Listerine, weiners ($1.23 for jumbo Oscar Meyer meat weiners), dog chewies. bread on sale, breakfast bars on sale, 5 bags of Easter candy for .19 cents a bag and I spent $36.00 total not including my prescriptions and filled a box I brought in and two of my cloth bags.
Target, blows WalMart the fuck away, everyday.

...bought three houseplants to replace the ones the wife uh...what's a nice word for killed?
“Mal-cared” for to brighten the house for spring cleaning.
Got some replacement printer cartridges, the requisite monster brick of 12 rolls of paper towels, coffee, juice boxes a couple of Rubbermaid™ storage bins (to put away some of the stuff we're packing away for Spring Cleaning), and some funky cap-sleeved T-shirts for the style-conscious daughter.
Lots of folks there representative of the Dem “base”. Black, Latino, White working class—didn't notice “lattes” being drunk per sé. Unless flavored coffee from the hot dog place near the store entrance counts. :)
