2. No president can "fix" the economy. |

It's far too complex, will require a lot of changes by Congress, the private sector, the Fed; there are also a lot of things going on elsewhere in the world that the US has no control over but that greatly affect our economy. I do like what Obama has said about re-regulating the financial sector (investment banks, etc.), but he can't single-handedly do much about this mess.

4. Agree. Midas couldn't fix the economy. |
|
It's going to be a long and undoubtedly painful process.
It's my hope that our nom lays it on the line for the American people as to what to expect, and explain HOW/WHY we got to this point, so s/he isn't held accountable when it really hits the fan after we're in the WH.

6. I fear that no one has the Midas touch... |

When we hit the rough waters, we can only hope we have a wise and intelligent leader. That is all we can realistically hope for.

7. Nope, the economy just has to work this out... |
|
But what he can do, and what I believe he will do, it to ameliorate some of the more disastrous effects of the 'working out' when they land on folks who didn't get the benefit of the rise that preceeded the fall.
