Has there ever been a situation in the past where neither candidate
reached the magic number (2025 this year) without the help of superdelegates? If so, how was it resolved?

1. not sure. Superdelegates are pretty recent, aren't they?
I think most years it was either an incumbent running or a clear leader before the convention. Not sure about superdelegates in 1980?
