New Backing for Obama As Party Seeks Unity
Source: Wall Street Journal

WASHINGTON -- Slowly but steadily, a string of Democratic Party figures is taking Barack Obama's side in the presidential nominating race and raising the pressure on Hillary Clinton to give up.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota is expected to endorse Sen. Obama Monday, according to a Democrat familiar with her plans. Meanwhile, North Carolina's seven Democratic House members are poised to endorse Sen. Obama as a group -- just one has so far -- before that state's May 6 primary, several Democrats say.

Helping to drive the endorsements is a fear that the Obama-Clinton contest has grown toxic and threatens the Democratic Party's chances against Republican John McCain in the fall.

Sen. Clinton rejects that view. Over the weekend, she reiterated her intent to stay in the race beyond the last contest in early June -- and all the way to the party's convention in Denver, if necessary.

2. Endorsements for Obama mean nothing. Those for Clinton mean everything.
Have there been any for Clinton lately?

3. Oh Yeah?
I'd say a sitting female Senator endorsing Obama over Clinton is kind of a big deal.

16. There was a rumor about an Indian Cheif, I think
But he wanted something in return, and Clinton didn't have money to pay him.

6. Clinton can only win with dirty tricks
I guess she can't give up now, while she's in dept..!!

She needs to "pretend" she's staying in the race for just a little bit longer to con a few more people to send her money to pay her dept!

Sen. Amy Klobuchar's endorsement is BIG...!!

8. Why do you have the right to ask someone to quit.
I find it interesting that so many that are asking Hillery to step out hate the American dream? I think the two of them have a right to run, and in fact I think the others dropped out to soon. Let the voter decide. And Mrs. Clinton publicly said she will fall in line if she were to loose, something Mr. Obama has not done.

I mean to fight with you, I just think in America we all have a right to run for any office we wish. A right I would hate to loose in any election would you not agree?

11. Hillary has lost and she refuses to face reality
That's the problem. She's had her American dream and it's over!

Time to move on and get behind the Democratic candidate for the Presidency.

She can only win by tearing the party apart, hence if she continues she does harm to both Obama and her self... She has much to slim a chance of winning and trust me if she wins, I'll back her 100% over McCain. I'm worried we lose more and more supporters if this race continues longer than it should.

They call it Hillary's American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.

18. It isn't about just one person
this is about our country, our party. The voters have decided. The primaries will continue after Hillary steps aside. Obama is the nominee. It's over.

7. Why do we always want someone to do what we want and not what the want to do?
This is America and we have enough hate to go around do we not?
If you were running for President would you want someone telling you to be good and quit to make it easier for you opponent? I will stand behind either winner (something Mrs. Clinton has said in public but not Obama.) I know it has been a long time but folks "This is Democracy at it's best". Don't be so quick to end the show, our kids may learn something.
As a candidate for Indiana State Senate I would be pissed if someone had the nerve to ask be to quit. How dare any American ask another to give up on a dream. Be that American name King or Obama or Clinton or JFK or Lincoln they all have the right do they not.
I am running for Indiana Senate because I am tiered of people who do not know me or care about be telling me how to live. Just because you like one candidate over the other is not a reason to ask someone to give up on a dream.

9. As a candidate for the Indiana Senate you must be familiar with the concept of free speech.
People are free to ask Clinton to withdraw from the race, but it is her choice. Nobody gets to tell another what they are free to say or ask. Certainly not me, certainly not you.

Many here last year continually cried that Gore should run, that he had an obligation and duty to run whether he wanted to run for president or not, even though he was living his life's dream and calling in working against global warming. It was his choice not to run even though people are still calling on him to be a candidate.

Many people view Clinton's insistence upon continuing her long shot campaign as well as her do anything tactics in attacking Obama in a way that helps McCain as being divisive to the Democratic Party as well as possibly helping the Republicans to win in November. I would hope that one of Clinton's dreams should be that the Democrats retake the White House in November and I would hope that she weigh that against her personal dream to win the nomination for herself at all costs.

So if you are tired in hearing people's opinions which are contrary to what you want to hear, perhaps DU is not the forum for you. Although finding a forum where people only post that with which you agree. Bush and Cheney have dreams also and I would hope that all of us here would feel free to ask them to give up on their dreams and goals.

The only way it the assumption that the entire race is weakened is if the true believers weaken the candidates.
We really need to just ride this out and get behind our own candidates to keep them strong. Most importantly we should not try to weaken the other candidate.

Calls for Hillary to drop out run counter to democracy and furthermore, enough with the competing smear stories!
