I regularly check the poll numbers published on Rasmussen Reports, which are updated every day.
I especially like to keep an eye on the hypothetical general election match-up numbers.
See:
http://rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/general_election_match_up_historyThe latest trend is that McCain's lead over Barack Obama has shrunk over the past 3 days from around 10 points to just 3 (within the margin of error).
At the same time, McCain appears to be maintaining a 10-point lead over Hillary Clinton.
Today's numbers should be added soon. It will be interesting to see if this trend is being confirmed.
If this poll is correct, it suggests that Obama would have a better chance of beating John McCain in November.
Since the start of the year I have posted a number of OPs informing fellow DUers of the latest numbers published by Rasmussen Reports. Like back in early March when Hillary was doing better than Obama in these polls.
In the past I have seen how these polls are trashed and denounced by supporters of the candidate who is doing less well. But I think that the methodology of a rolling poll with numbers updated every day is a very valuable tool for measuring shifts in public support between the candidates.
I highlighted this poll back when Hillary was doing good. So I think it is only fair to point out when Obama is doing better.
