Richard Mellon Scaife did NOT endorse Hillary -- don't spread that, it's wrong

Scaife's Pittsburgh Tribune Review editorial specifically states he is not endorsing:

Does all this mean I'm ready to come out and recommend that our Democrat readers choose Sen. Clinton in Pennsylvania's April 22 primary?

No -- not yet, anyway. In fairness, we at the Trib want to hear Sen. Barack Obama's answers to some of the same questions and to others before we make that decision.

But it does mean that I have a very different impression of Hillary Clinton today than before last Tuesday's meeting -- and it's a very favorable one indeed.

Call it a "counterintuitive" impression.

5. K&R for accuracy.
I don't understand the need to spin to the point where it becomes dishonest... but I guess some feel it's worthwhile, somehow.

10. He endorsed her, but didn't Endorse her...if that makes any sense.
His statement of his favorable impression of Hillary is technically an "endorsement". But he didn't Endorse her, meaning he didn't say that he favors her above all other candidates.

Whatever it is, it is certainly intended to harm her. But, really, she set herself up for it by agreeing to the interview in the first place.

I guess it shouldn't be a real surprise, what with the meeting and all. Maybe I missed something, is Hillary still a Democrat?

15. She met with Scaife
She gave his paper an interview. She endorsed HIM. I lost all respect for Senator Clinton at that moment.

Can it be that all Obama supporters are brand new to the political process, and don't know a lick of history?

26. She was at a table with Scaife
I don't know if Obama met with the board or not. But to put this in the context of Sen. Clinton's life, she lost all my respect when she sat at the table with him. There are just some people to unclean to be around. Richard Mellon Scaife is one of those.

It would be like Obama sitting down with David Duke and granting an interview to a paper he controlled in order to bash Sen. Clinton. Except that Duke has not tried to destroy Obama's life personally, as Scaife has with the Clintons.

I would not classify myself an Obama "supporter". He is the lesser of two evils, and I hold my nose while voting.

19. Still no damn good reason for her sitting down with the enemy
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 01:02 PM by RamboLiberal
1 - There are 2 newspapers in Pittsburgh. The Trib-Review is a joke in circulation. Hell it is Dicky Mellon Scaife's hobby paper that loses a ton of money. Clinton should've been sitting down with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette if she wanted wider circulation.

2 - Come GE time no matter who is the nominee the Trib will bury the Dem in the back pages. During 2000 RMS called and reamed them out for putting Gore's pic on the front page when he visited on a campaign swing to Pittsburgh. His own reporters were so embarassed at working for this ahole they leaked the story to the rival paper.

I sure wouldn't sit down with a paper that accused me of murder, my husband of rape, funded the RW smearmongers, countless books against my husband and myself, and probably wants me to win so he can continue the attacks.

22. One of those books portrayed Hillary hanging crack pipes on the White House Christmas Tree
and throwing lesbian sex orgies in the basement ... fun stuff of this nature, which also turned up on the tabloids at checkout counters. Possibly Hillary never went into a grocery store and saw this stuff.

We know where it came from, though, and why. Surely, she does too.

23. "Democrat readers"
Scaife wants Obama to debase himself by making such a pilgrimage. I hope he's strong enough to resist.

Sounds pretty close to an endorsement, and it will be if Obama doesn't show.
