Don't Forget the Supreme Court! |
|
I realize that many DU'ers are nursing hard feelings for people who support Hillary Clinton and that many other DU'ers have hard feelings for people who support Senator Obama. However the nominating process turns out, no matter how bitter we may be that our candidate didn't get the nomination, let's not forget the prize come the day after Election Day. Whichever Democratic candidate that wins in November will probably get to pick at least one Supreme Court Justice next term or, if too many sit on our hands next fall, Republican John McCain or his (almost certainly reactionary) Veep will get to finish the stacking that Dubya started.
Let's not forget what voter corralling, scrubbed voter lists, swift-boating, and slacking slackers bought us in the 2004 elections--Justice Alito and Chief Justice Roberts. As a Democratic partisan, I devoutly hope that we don't let those events happen again.

2. Never, ever, ever, do I forget that McCain means more Scalitos. |
|
It is horrible enough that we have five thugs interpreting the Constitution. with a McCain presidency, it would become far worse.

The Dr.Laura's of this country hope a Democrat does not get into office. The far right wing of the ROP wants to elect a Republican so they can stack the Supreme Court. If you think for one minute that John McCain is moderate, think again. He keeps saying, "People think I'm a moderate but I'm a conservative and always have been". He is saying he will appoint conservative judges to the Supreme Court. What makes you people think he is going to do anything different from George Bush when he is telling you he is not. If you vote for McCain because you are mad that Hillary won't win the nomination then you get what you deserve. It won't bother Hispanic women because they are Catholic and have large families, but for the rest of you, don't cut off your nose to spite your face. John McCain is not a moderate listen to his platform, there is nothing moderate about what he is saying now. Don't think about yourself, think about the next generation and generations to come of young women. Those conservative judges that Bush put on the court are young. They will be there for 20 years.

5. Hispanic Women Had Plenty To Fear, Too |
|
Even devout Catholic Hispanic women have a lot to fear from a right-wing Supreme Court. A lot of them have friends and neighbors across the border. There was a horrifying article on NPR about the immigration service's treatment of immigrant spouses whose partners died before the regulatory two-year time frame for a green card. In one case, the CIS agency said "We're sorry for your loss," then literally put her away in handcuffs and shackles.
