Your analogy is not a good one, because Wright does not steal, nor does he run the country.

Did YOU? Oh, and most DUers have done a lot more America "bashing" than Wright. That includes me. And my dad who spent thirty years or more bitching about this country did very well. Blind Patriotism is bullshit.

5. It's the church building the house on land the church owns |
|
One reason I don't like organized religion, but it's no different from most of the major faiths. Falwell, Robertson, Schuller, Graham, the Catholic church, many Jewish synagogues, etc. own extensive multi-million dollar mansions, land holdings, etc.

13. To his credit... He's given his life to the church and the community. |
|
He grew the church from almost nothing to what it is today. Along the way, he's picked up many awards, and much due recognition for the church that has aided them in giving back and building up the community. This is his retirement, and undoubtedly - when he/his family passes on, the church will retain ownership of it as a parsonage, and investment property.

even with the recent downturn in real estate prices, a $1.6 million home is a middle class home. Lots of people live in homes that have a similar value. You have to get up in the ten million dollar range before you start talking about mansions.

|
Four bedrooms for a retirement home?
No, the church's web page said that one element of their theology was to eschew "middle-classedness" (or was it "middle-classness"?). He's doing an excellent job of it with that house.
Esp. since he won't even have to pay property taxes.

|
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 03:26 PM by impeachdubya
You implied that there "must be" something sleazy about Wright if he's got money. Here's a homework assignment: Find out how much the homes of other preachers (or Rabbis, or Imams) to similarly large congregations are worth. Please. With documentation.
I want to know EXACTLY how much Hillary Clinton's Pastor's house is worth. In 2008 Dollars.
Then explain to me why you're not pissing and moaning about them. Is it because Rev. Wright is black?

1. The O.P. does not belong in this forum. It has nothing to do with the primaries. 2. You are outraged that Rev. Wright is building a home worth $1 Million. 3. You trying to co-relate their homes with who they are is silly. 4. You trying to co-relate this into anything that has relationship to Senator Obama is even sillier.
