Ralph Nader to Hillary: Run for as long as you like
Posted by Ralph Nader on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 04:39:00 PM

Senator Clinton:

Just read where Senator Patrick Leahy is calling on you to drop out of the Presidential race.

Believe me.

I know something about this.

Here’s my advice:

Don’t listen to people when they tell you not to run anymore.

That’s just political bigotry.

Listen to your own inner citizen First Amendment voice.

This is America.

Just like every other citizen, you have a right to run.

Whenever you like.

For as long as you like.

It’s up to you, Hillary.

Just tell them –

It’s democracy.

Get used to it.

Yours truly,

Ralph Nader

Looks like Hillary's got herself a new role model.

2. Oh my.
I had to look for myself -- I thought you made this up.

He is desperate to prove his relevance. Cling to him, Hillary! Ride those coattails.

*snicker*

3. its conflicting parameters: what is within your right to do and what the consequences are.
Clinton, and Nader, were within their right to continue.
However, as in all things, there are consequences.

The consequences are:
1. the continued quixotic tilt at the windmill saps direction and energy from the other primary candidate.
2. it allows the republican candidate to continue to campaign without interference or opposition.
3. it forces the party regulars to choose sides that can be lose/lose instead of win/win
4. By not dropping out and coming in support of the eventual nominee, it renders that move impossible later. No one will ever believe, at this point, a Clinton support position of Obama.
5. It narrows the strategic window of the eventual nominee to reorganize and implement a general election plan.
6. It damages both candidates, but it damages the loser more in terms of later viability.

Now, the conflicting parameter is: are those potential consequences worth or of equal weight to a less than 10% chance of victory?

8. Wonder if the Clinton Campaign
will denounce and reject the Nader endorsement. Distancing themselves as far away from him as they possibly can. But I donno, maybe both campaigns are financed by the same group people

14. And what would he know about party primaries?
It's quite a bit different from a third party run in a general election.

19. I agree
Hillary should be allowed to run for as long as she likes, PROVIDED she pays her campaign debts. However, she should also be forced to bear the consequences of her prolonged run.

One of the reasons I feel Bill and Hillary exude a sense of entitlement about the nomination is because the party have never held them accountable for their actions.
