I've been waiting for KY polls:

Obama was only able to make up for it because they had many more black voters.

54. It depends. Identity politics and racism are two different things.
If they were voting AGAINST Obama because he was black, then it would be racist (visa versa, blacks voting against Hillary b/c she's white.)

96. So how can you tell which is which?
Since there are two candidates, do you just assume that blacks vote for Obama because he's black (which is GOOD, right?), and that whites are voting for Clinton in order to vote AGAINST Obama because he's black (which is BAD, right?)?

I trust your all-knowing wisdom ...

91. Yeah, because whites have been so oppressed by blacks
I have no strong opinion on Kentucky, and frankly don't think it matters all that much because it's not going to have a big impact on the outcome of the race. But your argument kind of assumes that black and white voters are starting out from the same perspective.

5. The other explanation is they don't like Obama's choice of mentor.
Maybe because he said that we are all living in the US of KKK? :eyes:

Obama trying to deal with it by smearing his grandma didn't help either.

But maybe it's just because I am also a "typical white person" ...

Why are you so offended by Obama recognizing the reality that most white people do harbor inner fears about black people that tend to come to the surface in moments like this?

This says much more about you than it does anyone else.

6. Excuse Me...
I live in Lexington KY and I am offended by your remark. This state is no more or no less, racist or gender biased than the majority of this country. It is, however, more conservative including on the Democratic side. Kentucky voted for Bill Clinton in both the 92 and 96 elections and Hillary's support is based not only on her more conservative Democratic views but also on Bill Clinton's popularity. There are only a few areas in this state that have large African-American populations; predominantly, Louisville and Lexington. Kentucky is really very similar to both Ohio and Indiana in that it is a rural and agricultural based with considerable industry. I am so sick of the generalizations that go on among supposedly intelligent people, that anyone would look at one poll and make such a idiotic assumption.

You know, I am a former Edwards supporter who now supports Obama as do many people here in Lexington. Fortunately, I live in a more liberal community but I tell you, the sniping and racist remarks by people on this board are appalling. It appears that we should just all hate each other for our views, our color, our gender...somehow this was not what I thought this Party was about. I am a bit idealistic and a good friend years ago laughed at me and said, "And what makes you think that all Democrats are color blind? There are racists in this Party as well." Damn, she was right.

Arizona
Arkansas

Nevada
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Ohio
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
Tennessee
Texas

28. The truth is no Democrat is going to take Kentucky in the general election
Both candidates have no difference in regard to race relations

The only thing Kentucky will do for the Democrats if for the primaries

As of today, most of the South will vote AGAINST their own interest rather than a Democrat in the general election, and most of it because it was the Democrats whose civil rights legislation became a reality

If you recall it was nixons Southern strategy who exploited that, and gave power to the republicans in the South

People are slowly changes, but it sure has taken much longer in the Southern parts of our country

It is amazing to me that they will vote against their children's future, just to propagate a racist mindset

Kentucky is no more racist than South Carolina or Mississippi, both of which Obama won. I would expect most of this to be based on name recognition and the recent controversies in the MSM. The race will tighten up considerably once he actually campaigns there.

In the long run none of these polls mean dipsh**. I know that. And I don't hang my every hope on them. But a 2:1 margin is strikingly hopeful.

I am part of a team that promotes Hillary in OH, PA, KY. I watch the polls in these states, as well as listen to other "on the ground" information from the campaign.

I predict a similar PA win as the one we saw in OH. About 10%. KY's margin may be a little wider. Indiana's will be narrower.

Why be so hostile?

KY's will narrow. But not by as much as PA's will.

Last I knew, IN was already narrowing. Tho I doubt Hill will completely overtake Barack there. In my mind it is less important, because it doesn't go blue easily. (PA and KY do!)

This is where I live. I can be in IN or KY within 20 minutes... or PA in two hours ... so I follow these states closely and I try to turn them blue.

I,too, have been looking for one with no success. I agree, I do believe that Hillary will win KY, and while she is not my candidate of choice (Edwards was), I just want a Dem to win in the GE. We need to protect the Supreme Court. During 2000, there were these great buttons that said, "It's the Supreme Court, Stupid!" Nothing has changed. I for one will gladly vote for the Dem nominee in November regardless of who it is...how could any Democrat do otherwise? I do have concerns about how easy it will be to beat McCain unless the people who are supporting Obama who have not been part this process before will support the nominee regardless. Otherwise, any Democrat is fine by me.

20. I don't think it's necessarily racist...
...Kentucky and West Virginia (and southern Ohio) are essentially the same state, though.

If a candidate does well in southern Ohio and West Virginia, it's a safe bet they'll do well in Kentucky.

And there's nothing wrong with it.

I don't know why folks get so hostile. Do you?

47. No idea.
Being from northern Ohio, my southern "brothers" irritate me at times...it's like nobody has told them that the Mason-Dixon line doesn't run through Columbus, but for some reason that area votes like the South on a regular basis (and not the progressive South).

at least for now, we are dealing with Dems.

Once you roll in the GOP for the GE I can understand the apprehension. But... the folks who support Hillary here are not regressive. At least not the ones I know. It's true that we may be practical... and being aware of what the General Electorate looks like in our neck of the woods... we see Hill as a better bet. But we are not a bunch of backwoods hicks.

Anyways... I still hope we'll have a threesome to campaign against McCain in the fall. Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama suits me just fine. Either way, we keep Bill in play on the trail. Love him or hate him... he plays the good ole southern boys like a fiddle.

That leaves Hill to handle the eastern seaboard. And Barack out in the NW states.

I'll have to look it up so we can have a debate about the "real" issues.

44. Nice try, but it was shot on the Chattooga river, and in Tugaloo gorge
The river forms part of the border between South Carolina and Georgia. The movie was based on a movie by James Dickey, a writer from South Carolina. It is about the mountains of Georgia, period. It has nothing to do with Kentucky, whatsoever.

60. You're both right. I'm wrong.
I don't know why I thought TN or KY. Now I have to go back and rewatch it.

Just thought it would be more fun to debate movies instead of hating on each other for once. It much more hilarious and much less likely to make you want to put your head through a plate glass window.

100. I don't recall
anyone touting Wyoming as a "big win", just a win. Perhaps significant because of the demographics of the state, but just a win. One of many.

Plenty of ignorant, racist whites there and not many blacks. And yes, it has become about race. It's pretty clear that blacks are voting for a black guy, most whites are voting for Hillary because they like/love her, but there is no doubt that some are voting against Obama. 97% of Obama's black supporters said they would vote for Clinton against McCain. When the same question was asked of whites supporting Clinton, the number is around 70% that would vote for Obama. So as I said, blacks are voting for a black guy and some whites are voting against a black guy moreso than for Hillary.

but I do know that Texas was a hell of a lot closer than Kentucky will be. There's plenty of ignorant racists here, but there's also plenty of blacks to balance it out. BTW, east Texas has some of the most racist people in the nation. Vidor, TX flies their Confederate flags on their properties right by the highway. James Byrd was murdered in Jasper, which is further north but also racist as can be.
