Rise Hillary. Rise.

FAIRLESS HILLS, PA. -- During a campaign rally just north of Philadelphia in a highly industrial part of Pennsylvania, the campaign message was simple: Hillary Clinton is a fighter. The point was reinforced by the music that brought Clinton to the stage: “Eye of the Tiger,” a song made popular by the boxing movie “Rocky III.” Clinton was introduced by Gov. Ed Rendell, D-Pa., who told the crowd that calls for Clinton to drop out of the race are "ridiculous.”

“This is a basketball game,” Rendell said, “and we’re about 2 points behind with about 8 minutes to go and we’re going to come roaring back and win this thing.” Clinton stood by nodding her head as the crowd cheered.

Rendell said Clinton has been counted out before and she has come “roaring back.” He pointed to her victories in New Hampshire, Super Tuesday, Ohio and Texas saying Pennsylvanians are going to have a “deafening noise for the nation on April 22nd,” the date of the Pennsylvania primary.

When choosing which candidate to endorse, Rendell said he looked at each of their positions closely. “I looked at all their position papers and I would give Senator Obama and Senator Edwards a solid B+. I teach at Penn and I grade papers, Hillary Clinton got an A+.”

The rally at Keystone Industrial Port Complex was largley attended, primarily by union workers. When Clinton took the microphone she delivered her usual stump speech, getting the crowd fiery when she said Americans have to start working together again. Clinton said some people “wring their hands” while others “roll up their sleeves.” She pointed out that if you “are wringing your hands, you can’t roll up your sleeves.”

Hillary Clinton told hundreds of supporters at a rally Monday night in lower Bucks County that she plans to cure the nation's ailing economy by cutting taxes for the middle class, ending tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas and calling a ''timeout'' on trade agreements.

Speaking inside a once-thriving U.S. Steel mill that now sits closed in the Keystone Industrial Port Complex here, Clinton said she wants to create the same kind of ''clean energy'' jobs across the country that Pennsylvania has lured onto the old U.S. Steel complex in recent years.

''There's a lot we can do to get the middle class back in the driver's seat in America,'' she told the crowd, many union workers holding signs supporting their candidate and chanting ''Hillary! Hillary! Hillary!'' throughout the half-hour speech.

''One thing you know about me is I don't quit,'' she said, pointing to a sign in the audience that read, ''Please don't quit.''

Sen. Clinton says she has something in common with legendary film boxer Rocky Balboa—she's not a quitter.

Recalling a famous scene on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art from the 1976 Oscar-winning film "Rocky," Clinton said that ending her presidential campaign now would be as if "Rocky Balboa had gotten halfway up those art museum steps and said, 'Well, I guess that's about far enough.'"

"Let me tell you something, when it comes to finishing a fight, Rocky and I have a lot in common. I never quit. I never give up. And neither do the American people," Clinton said in excerpts of prepared remarks to be given Tuesday to a meeting of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.

"The Republicans aren't going to give up without a fight," Clinton said. "And no matter how beautiful your rhetoric, the Republicans aren't going to turn off their attack machine—it doesn't have an off-switch."

"But one thing you know about me is that when I say I'll fight for you, I'll fight for you," the New York senator said. "I know what it's like to stumble. I know what it means to get knocked down. But I've never stayed down, and I never will."

In excerpt of a speech she’s set to give to the AFL-CIO in the City of Brotherly Love (http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/04/01/hillary-rocky-clinton-in-philadelphis/), Senator Clinton says “just as it’s getting time to vote here in Pennsylvania, Senator Obama says he’s getting tired of it. His supporters say they want it to end.” (http://facts.hillaryhub.com/archive/?id=6851)

"I know that there will be hurdles and setbacks between now and November. But I also know that I’m ready. I know what it’s like to stumble. I know what it means to get knocked down. But I’ve never stayed down, and I never will," her speech said.

"We have a lot of work to do together, and we won’t get it done by quitting or walking away. We’ll do it by staying and fighting and standing up for what we believe in."

"But I don’t need to tell that to all of you. No one knows better than organized labor how important it is to have a fighter on your side. When you send someone to that bargaining table, you need the strongest, toughest, most determined person you’ve got. Not someone who is just going to talk about problems. But someone who will roll up her sleeves and get the job done."

"And that’s what you need in your President. A President who will work as hard for you as you do for America. And if you give me the chance, I will be that President."

"You know that’s what I’ll do because that’s what I’ve always done. And I’ll keep standing with you, fighting with you, and speaking out for you every single day as President of the United States."

Celebrating Women: A Note from Dr. Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

This is not the first time you have seen Hillary Clinton seemingly at her wits end, but she has always risen, always risen, much to the dismay of her adversaries and the delight of her friends.

Hillary Clinton will not give up on you and all she asks of you is that you do not give up on her.

There is a world of difference between being a woman and being an old female. If you’re born a girl, grow up, and live long enough, you can become an old female. But, to become a woman is a serious matter. A woman takes responsibility for the time she takes up and the space she occupies.

Hillary Clinton is a woman. She has been there and done that and has still risen. She is in this race for the long haul. She intends to make a difference in our country.

She is the prayer of every woman and man who long for fair play, healthy families, good schools, and a balanced economy.

She declares she wants to see more smiles in the families, more courtesies between men and women, more honesty in the marketplace. Hillary Clinton intends to help our country to what it can become.

She means to rise.

She means to help our country rise. Don’t give up on her, ever.

In fact, if you help her to rise, you will rise with her and help her make this country a wonderful, wonderful place where every man and every woman can live freely without sanctimonious piety, without crippling fear.

Rise Hillary.

Rise.

Hillary Clinton talks to reporters as her daughter Chelsea and her husband, former US president Bill Clinton, look on in Chappaqua, New York after the Senator cast an historic ballot in her own bid for the presidency.

Hillaryism is a religion for people who care more about their twisted view of feminism- a woman no matter what- than anything else. A cult indeed, with its head in the sand, and far away from reality.

65. A little lesson on what freedom is?
Edited on Tue Apr-01-08 04:33 PM by Yotun
One has the freedom to do as he wishes, as long as it does not infringe on another's freedoms to do something.

I HAVE the freedom to be an ass, and criticize and say what I feel about the OP. I am not telling the OP not to make the particular post, nor am I violating their right to respond to me, or express their self as they see fit, or their freedom to do ANYTHING.

By telling me to 'Get out of here', one is calling for my right to talk to be taken away, whereas I did nothing of the sort for the OP. So get over your self-righteous self and don't attack MY freedoms.

Oh, and you know what, I'm not buying the happy-smiley, pseudo-feminist hymns for a spoiled privileged millionaire woman, who's voted for a war that's caused millions of ruined lives and doesn't have the decency to at least apologize for it, and instead dares to blame the Iraqis (!!!) for not taking the advantage of 'the gift of freedom' the great US of A has brought to them. So sorry if I'm pissed off at the hymns of praising for a war criminal, and if I value actual lives lost more than the sensitive sensibilities of the 'friendly gang of DU posters'.

73. i think you may be the one who need a lesson
suggesting that you "get out of here" (not ordering, not requiring) is not calling for your right to talk to be "taken away" -- its a request that you and your right to talk go do your talking somewhere else. As for your "freedom" to "speak" on a private forum, you do realize that there is no such thing, right? Any more than you have the freedom to go into someone's house and be an ass and not be expected to be asked to leave.

This thread does not attack Senator Obama; it supports Senator Clinton by showing her in a good light and highlighting her strengths. I don't agree with bigtree on this topic, but I note, respect and support the effort being made to post positive material.

I recommend other supporters of Senator Obama take note, also, and attempt to emulate this behavior. If somebody posts a smear, then fire away - this is not a smear.

89. is that who that is
in that picture?
man it must be ancient
love waits
great sense of humor

Well she's up against the register
with an apron and a spatula
with yesterday's deliveries,
and the tickets for the bachelors
she's a moving violation
from her conk down to her shoes
but it's just an invitation to the blues

and you feel just like Cagney
looks like Rita Hayworth
at the counter of the Schwab's drug store
you wonder if she might be single
she's a loner likes to mingle
got to be patient and pick up a clue

she says howyougonnalikem
over medium or scrambled
anyway's the only way
be careful not to gamble
on a guy with a suitcase
and a ticket gettin out of here
it's a tired bus station
and an old pair of shoes
but it ain't nothing but an
invitation to the blues

but you can't take your eyes off her
get another cup of java
and it's just the way she pours it for you
joking with the customers
and it's mercy mercy Mr. Percy
there ain't nothin back in Jersey
but a broken-down jalopy of a
man I left behind
and a dream that I was chasin
and a battle with booze
and an open invitation to the blues

but she's had a sugar daddy
and a candy apple Caddy
and a bank account and everything
accustom to the finer things
he probably left her for a socialite
and he didn't love her 'cept at night
and then he's drunk and never
even told her that he cared
so they took the registration
and the car-keys and her shoes
And left her with an invitation
to the blues

'Cause there's a Continental Trailways leaving
local bus tonight, good evening
you can have my seat
I'm stickin round here for a while
get me a room at the Squire
the filling station's hiring
I can eat here every night
what the hell have I got to lose
got a crazy sensation,
go or stay and I've got to choose
and I'll accept your invitation to the blues

And the fat lady is warming up. I hope she doesn't end up bankrupting herself financially and in stature by attempting to destroy her competitor.

I am so sorry there are so many ignorant people here that felt the need to shit all over the thread, as well as all over probably one of the best poets of the modern day.

But on the bright side, your posts shine a spot light on some pretty terrific Du'ers on both sides of this primary debate.

Thank you for adding such positive posts to this forum!

In fact I've noticed that many people are starting to stand up and say "enough with the poo-flinging" and that gives me alot of hope that DU might be able to heal. When the rabble rousers have no one left to fight with they will go elsewhere.

You are a treasure.

60. Maya's excellent adventure — at age 80

Maya's excellent adventure — at age 80

By HILLEL ITALIE

The Associated Press

NEW YORK — It takes just seconds to leave behind this muted Harlem side street and enter the parlor of Maya Angelou's brownstone, a step as bright and quick as a black and white film dissolving into Technicolor.

Plump sofas and armchairs in bursts of green and blue and red and yellow form a ring on spotless hardwood floors. Toward the rear, like a shy, well-dressed prodigy, a baby grand piano looks shined to stage perfection. By the piano, stained glass doors open to a red dining area centered by a mahogany table as big and round as the voice of Angelou herself.

Still close to her youthful height of 6 feet, the author-poet-dancer-singer-activist is ready to celebrate her 80th birthday on Friday, feeling, she says, like she's 60, wearing a dark blouse and slacks, sipping apple juice, singing hymns, reciting Latin, whispering, laughing, crying, missing lost friends or planning to make new ones.

"I don't know how long I'm going to live, but I still see my life as an adventure," says Angelou, who divides her time between New York and a house in Winston-Salem, N.C.

She has written that when the road ahead is blocked, and the one behind cut off, then a new path must be created. Angelou's life does not follow a straight, flat line, but takes detour upon detour, an ascending circle that covers rich and poor, city and country, art and commerce, shock and sentiment, Malcolm X and the good people of Hallmark Cards, Inc.

...when it looks more and more as though she'll have to do just that.

But I understand. Whether or not she can pull out a miracle, she has to say that she'll never quit.

I get this. I don't see Hillary as an example of "glass ceiling breaking" feminism.
But, as far as general appreciation for the rise of women, I can understand why some women support her.
Very cool tribute.
