EDIT: OMG this "apprentice comment " is going to be hard to live down
Edited on Tue Apr-01-08 03:48 PM by Perky
From the CBS blog

During her remarks before the AFL-CIO convention of labor unions, Hillary Clinton made the argument that she is most prepared to be president because she has learned by watching and observing, much like a labor apprentice. “I’ve apprenticed, and I’ve learned how to do it, I’ve watched it being done for 8 years,” she said.

Does tha mean she held the reigns of power with Bill looking over her shoulder? Or was she looking over Bill's and everybody else shoulder like Nancy Reagan?

So Ms. Clinton are you suggesting that as First Lady, you were actually apprenticing for the Presidency?

She says yes...it opens her up to serious questions of access and control during her last stay in the WH and if her plan all along was to run for president. Was she in the Sit Room? Was she in the room when Peres and Arafat were talking? How often were you meeting with Rubin or Reno or Reich?

She says no and she opens herself up again to accusations of exaggerating her access and influence.

STUPID STUPID STUPID

2. I may be wrong - but I think people will take this as just playing with the word
to mean she watched Bill - and yes, I know the word's meaning implies closer to your meaning.

4. Apprentice?
An apprentice must eventually perform the "hands on" portion of the training. Watching and doing are completely different things.

before I read your post, most likely for the same reason.

6. She was using that term because she was talking to a union audience
And apprenticeships are common in many union shops. I could see how it could open her to attacks, but it's important to understand the context. I complained yesterday when some Clinton supporters try to distort what Obama said about abortion, so I have to be fair here.

23. That's almost worse because Union members DO know what the word means
and being First Lady is NOT an apprenticeship for serving as President.

8. I've caught a couple of snips of her speechifying today.
She is now taking the big dawg's experience as her own; 'we' did this, 'we' did that, when no such thing happened. As you said, she didn't even have a security clearance. :eyes:

Both statements have as much weight as a feather. As an Obama supporter, I frown upon tempests in a teapot from either side.

24. Union members may.
It's really not a joking or cutesie matter. Being First Lady is not an apprenticeship for serving as President of the United States. Taking something that Labor considers important and making light of it isn't really helpful when trying to win union members support.
