I plan to be the Democratic nominee come August 2008.
You may scoff, but I have a plan. I contend that the Math is all in my favor.
My Vetting will be simple. Not much there. I did fail one course in high school, and I may have gotten a traffic ticket this last week, but other than that, good luck finding anything. I can show you good judgment going back to the day that I turned 18. No Drugs, no alcohol. Never had an affair or anything close. Plus, by that point, the amount of time anyone has to pull up anything I forgot to mention will be much reduced.
I am also aided in that I have no (significant) inconvenient non Caucasian or female genetics. I have never been in a war zone, nor made any claims about it. The most controversial thing my pastor has done was at a church retreat when he saw some idiots get a car stuck in the sand with the tide coming in, and decided not to help. Luckily, I went over and loaned them the use of my back in the auto rescue attempt. So I come out smelling like Roses.
I also have the phone numbers for many of the super delegates, and every single one whom I have contacted said that they appreciated my calls, which I take as a good sign. I expect that sometime near the convention, I will get a tidal wave of approximately 815 super delegate endorsements (yeah, i know, but I plan to count Florida and Michigan, and they will inevitably love me), as the electability issue comes into play.
I have every reason to trust that none of my surrogates will be saying anything untoward, as I currently have none. There are no scandals in my closet. Plus I have the distinct advantage of having no polled negatives numbers.
Also, seeing as the "pledged" delegates are not actually required to vote for their named nominee, I expect that I will carry a large number of them. Once I have the chance to have a little chat with them about electability, snipers, and pastors, I rather expect to receive almost 89% of the first convention vote. Especially after I seat the Michigan contingent(I have relatives there who will swing things my way).
The Math is technically possible, so I refuse to withdraw from the race. I'll be ready for you in October, Senator McCain. Are you ready for me?
