80. Plus the fact that the last poll was taken in the middle of the Wright controversy ...
... but before Obama's speech. There's a LOT of room for error, but it's safe to say that Obama isn't 26 points behind any more.

Today's irony alert... Clinton supporters who were citing the earlier PPP 26-point margin as gospel now crying bull**** and questioning the validity of PPP.

for the ELECTION results. There will be plenty of time to cheer after that. I don't see Hillary dropping out even if Obama wins PA.

I'll find it very interesting if the people of the Alabama between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh vote for Mr.O. My guess is that would mean they dislike Hillary more than they fear African-Americans. As you might guess I was born in that wasteland and don't much care for the attitudes of the majority of the people that live there.

Did you see the turnout in State College, Alabama last week? Over 20,000 turned out on a cold day.

Remember, most Pennsylvanians don't live in Alabama. If Obama carries Philly and Pittsburgh like he should he'll pick up more than half of the state's delegates.

57. IMO: Tuzla did it.
PA is full of a lot of military and military supporters. I can see why there would be a huge swing after Hillary lying about being under fire. IMO, to someone who has really and truly undergone personal peril that bullshit lying sniper garbage would sit very badly.

So, yeah, I can see a huge swing in a short time due to Hillary's massive lies.

... re: the sniper story. The talk is just about Hillary lying, and why she felt the need to lie. I've been thinking that veterans and active duty military would be more offended by that particular lie than I would. I just viewed her as a lying buffoon, SOP for her, but they're more likely to take personal offense.

97. Stolen Valor- Slander
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 08:16 AM by Mother Of Four
Those are the two catch phrases my husband used when he was watching it on the news.

He was in the Army for 22 years, and sacrificed alot. Up until the Tuzla story broke he was "Meh, I can't really warm up to her but I'll vote for her if she wins the nom."

He was almost frothing after they showed the little girl hugging her on the tarmac. He brought up that (HRC) by saying she was in danger of being shot, and ducking sniper fire she was calling into question the Commander and his performance at the military post. By lying about being in a dangerous situation, she was degrading every single person who ever wore the uniform.

I was upset about the whole thing, but he was angry. It's going to take convincing for him to check her name off if she gets the nom.

(Edited to add- He was stating HRC was in fact slandering the Commander in question by refuting that he took his job seriously enough to "Have that place locked down tight")

76. for most of us it is 'flip a coin' between the two so ....
a little negative thing (like sniper fire) or a little positive thing (like Obamas excellent speech) could push a lot of fence sitters over the other side.

My wife and i couldn't decide and indeed didn't until the day off (went back and forth a lot) in the end one of us voted hilary and one voted obama - in the weeks after we switched. I like em both. I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl over a 'not bush' option that either way is great. I love the clinton wonk factor and the obama inspiration - and I think both are competent and ready (though with very different strengths and weaknesses).

The media up to the date will have a huge impact as so many normal folks are just looking for an excuse to pick one rather than the other. That doesn't include most of us DU'ers I'm afraid - this is a skewed demographic with a penchant for bitter infighting who are looking for an excuse to eviscerate the supporters of the other candidate.

84. No reliable pollster would claim that this poll puts Obama ahead of Clinton.
The results are within the poll's stated margin of error, which means that it is just as likely that Clinton is slightly ahead.

In other words, according to this poll, the race is too close to call.

Which would still be a good result for Obama -- but I'm wondering about how reliable this poll is at all, since the pollster apparently was willing to exaggerate the results for Obama's benefit.

90. Is Public Policy Polling Reliable?
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pppmain.asp?@spdT=B6B42829136845A69B19

Compared to Fox News, Ramussen, Zogby, etc., they usually have the lowest error in the polls that they selected for the reliability report.

Of course, they generated their own reliability report. I didn't bother to check it. Perhaps you could and let us know.

98. Typical...don't like the news, blame the messenger!
PPP was the most accurate in WI, SC, TX and OH.

Seems to me the trend within the same poll is the key factor. PPP had Clinton ahead in PA by over 20 points just a few weeks ago. Now it is basically tied.

Keep in mind that Hillary doesn't just have to win PA. She has to win in the 65% range or she won't pick up enough delegates to make much difference....

Not to mention repeat this performance in all the rest of the contests.

Now, I understand with all the goal post movements and new firewalls being established by the Hillary Fantasy Tour, if Obama wins PA it will be shrugged off. Pretty soon, perhaps, we will all be looking forward to mighty Puerto Rico as the ultimate fire wall!

I can see it now....Obama wins PA by 5 points. Hillary's Fantasy Tour rushes out to say Hillary stayed close to Obama and had the "moral equivalency" to a tie thus showing her strength against McCain and Obama's inability to decisiviely win.....writing this, it sounds absurd....but I would sincerely not be at all surprised to see these exact words come from the Hillary Fantasy Tour

6. The American people seem to be waking from their long national
nightmare. I won't delude myself by thinking that he'll win it, but in most polls, he's cut her lead to single digits, and if he wins it, it's icing on the cake. If she loses PA, and continues on, we'll know that this is no longer about her winning the nomination, it's about doing as much damage to Obama as possible to make him unelectable.

Recommended.

82. FYI... It has been about damaging Obama and making him *appear* unelectable ...
... since before TX/OH/VT/RI Tuesday. The Clinton campaign has known for quite a while that they couldn't catch him in elected pledged delegates and so have been going heavily negative since around the time of the TX debate. Their only way to win the nomination is to convince enough superdelegates to ignore the voters and go with Hillary, instead.

11. The polls are going to be all over the place for a week or two.
People like me are getting back into the political scene after a long break. During that process polls will be messed up as people on the street get caught up with news again.

Now please everyone do not get some kind of view that obama WILL win the state. He has a tiny chance sure but the bigger goal here is just to reduce the popular vote to single digits and make her net delegate gain almost nonexistent!

She is sitting on debt and cant afford to not have a blowout to go into the next states. So Clinton will pull every trick she has left... So expect polls to move rapidly and work hard to expose her politically!

A good rule of thumb. Assume Clinton is winning by over 20 percent and work like you want to turn that into an Obama win!

Gaming it to make it last as long as possible.

Remember when Hillary was up big the Republicans went in droves for Obama.

and he is African American.

According to him ~ Rendell is now hated in Philly ~ they are doing everything they can to get out the vote there.
He says that Rendell is doing everything he can to hold DOWN the vote in Philly so that Hillary can win in the burbs.

My cousin said the young voters are amazing!

They are knocking on doors, posting signs ~ young voters of all colors are all over Philly for Obama.

My best friend is a lawyer and he went to Ohio to work the Obama Campaign to guard against Voter Fraud etc.. He is on his way to Philly.

He said the dirty tricks that Hillary did on the ground in Ohio were beyond the pale.

He had never seen anything like it, even when he worked the Civil Rights struggles in the South.

So that's why he is on his way to Philly.

I am thinking about catching a plane and heading for Philly to ~ goclark wants to be there for Obama! :bounce:

113. That's not dirty
have you ever stood in a long line to vote in a poor neighborhood?

Have you ever had someone question every issue relating to where you vote, how old you are and try to steal your vote like they did in Ohio and Florida and in many other places in the past.

I have worked the polls in Los Angeles and I know how they disenfranchise voters, moving poll sites without notice etc.

That is not a dirty trick by Obama and he is not the first politician that tried to give all citizens an equal opportunity to vote.

Thanks for inspiring me, I'm going to donate $25 to Obama right now.
:bounce:

And, I am sending $100 to the NAACP Legal Defense fund as well.

Thanks!

20. I continue to be skeptical of PPP polls.
Edited on Wed Apr-02-08 12:00 PM by gcomeau
They seem to be wildly unstable. A couple weeks ago they had Clinton up by 26 in PA, and Obama up by over 20 in NC.

I don't think Obama is up in PA. I do think it is very clear that he is closing on Clinton and closing hard when we combine this suspect result with the Rasmussen, Quinnipiac AND Survey USA polls that ALL have him shrinking Clinton's lead significantly, and all except one place him within single digits when nobody had him there a week ago.

So, definitely excellent news for Obama, but I'd take this one particular result with more than a few grains of salt. I think he's more likely within 7 points or so... which would still be a death blow for Clinton even if he doesn't close that gap any further.

Other pollsters had Hillary winning or very close behind. I believe PPP had Obama up by 11 or 12, and that was thought to be pie-in-the-sky. He won my state 58-41. I'm not sure which pollster had Obama up in NH by 10, when he lost by 2. According to the polls, worst case is Hil by 12, best is Obama by 2. I think this is definitely good news for us!

26. My take
I refuse to believe Obama wins Pennsylvnia.I am a big Obama supporter. However I am really thinking
he can keep Hillary's lead under 10 points.3 Polls now suggest that can happen. And polls are
suggesting Obama Is gaining support against Mccain In a general Election matchup. Now I hope he can
pull It off In Pennsylvnia.I just don't see him winning It outright. If she Is suspose to win by double digets and wins by single digets this IS a win and he can offshoot this with North Carolina
and fight her for Indiana.

Steady wins the race here as it will when Obama will have to face the many leaders of the world.

There's no way the polls can swing that much realistically.

Hopefully other polls will come out showing more of Obama's momentum in PA - he does seem to be doing a damned good job of shaving away Hillary's lead there, but calling him in the lead at this point is wishful thinking.

Edited on Wed Apr-02-08 04:58 PM by mikekohr
Senator Obama has 20 more days to make his case in Pennsylvania. I suspect he will continue to shrink Senator Clinton's lead or expand his. I had an opportunity to meet and talk with Senator Obama in July of 2004. I came away from the meeting knowing I had met a very different politician, and I've met many, I believe Obama is a once in a generation leader. Given the opportunity to see and watch Senator Obama closely, I believe the people of Pennsylvania will come away with the same impression that I did in 2004.

feels good but I don't buy it. He needs to keep working the ground game and use his well built machine to keep her win low. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a rush factor in having rethugs going over and voting for Obama to keep the race close to keep them both in. As it stands i don't see him winning it, but I don't see her winning it big either. She needs to win decisivly and i don't think that will happen.

85. 28 points in 2 weeks get real? The Rassmussen swing for Obama is more realistic
Rasmussen had him gaining I believe five points from the last poll, which is realistic, especially given the fact he is outspending Clinton 3:1 on ads. We saw the numbers move for Obama in Ohio and Texas (he led Texas until it counted) when he blitzed the two states with ads. Once Clinton got on the air the numbers stabilized and then reversed and began to move in Hillary's direction. She didn't start running ads until a couple days ago.

The trend is definitely going his way. Come on, Pennsylvania! Let's finish this! Hillary has shown herself to be an outright liar and only concerned about her own political life, regardless of what's best for the Democratic Party. I'm a woman and I could not care less what her gender is or what Obama's color is. It's about who's best for the job at this crucial point in America's history. Obama has shown his ability to bring people together and after so many years of bitter fighting it's time we at least try to reach across the aisle and get something done for once!

But I gotta go for now. Gotta give more $$$ to his campaign!
