Why was it OK for the "Angry White Male" to be upset with the country but |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-02-08 11:51 AM by Quixote1818
if a Black preacher points out problems they hate America? Remember how we were supposed to bow down and respect the "Angry White Male" back in the 90's? Thats when we lost the house and the Senate because they were so dam angry at our country.
Why the double standard?

I thought you might have been referring to one of those preachers who said America deserves to be destroyed cause of feminism or gay marriage or women having the right to choose or something like that.

or an "angry female" of any color. It is more acceptable to be an angry black male or any angry white male or angry any color male than it is angry female. it is sickening.

30. An important difference |
|
The abuse against black males that he is speaking about was and often still is one under the color of state law, so the situations really aren't comparable. I am certainly not underestimating the oppression against women - being a woman myself, I certainly understand it. But the situations are very different and the fact that women have not achieved full equality does not obviate the very serious problem that black men face in our society.

no way obviates the fact that women are equally oppressed and violated.Women are still being sold into slavery today and yet the plight of the "Black Male" is somehow considered more "vital".And as far as abuse to males still being under the color of state law, may I remind you that many states don't even recognize spousal rape and many more states are going back to require spousal "permission for abortions as well as the many states that require "parental permission" ?????

of a previous post regarding Bill Clinton being angry with SDs..That is perfectly acceptable for the Clinton supporters. But having a black man showing the same...I doubt they would be as forgiving.
I go back to the example of my Father, during the 60's when Civil Rights movement was in our own living rooms, shown on TeeVee and in the newspapers. It frightened him. Something about the sins of this nation, allowing the segregation and the racial crimes to continue, turning your head and denying it...sort of like waiting for a punishment you know is about to come, when you had done something bad.
The image of an angry black man, scares the bejesus out of the white man.

20. "Angry White Male" defined: |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-02-08 12:37 PM by SoCalDem
the sons/grandsons of white people who were adults during the heyday of the 50's 60's when white men were the King of the Hill..
Back then...
they were free to intimidate the "wimmin" who worked in their offices they were free to wallop their wives & kids & then joke about it they were free to demean black people and brown people they could do poorly ar school, but graduate and go on to a nice union job their uncle or dad got them..and be able to have a decent life they could drink & drive they could do just about anything they wanted to..and get away with it..
the 60's/70's & the laws that came with them, rocked these guys' world..
all the stuff they took for granted was now frowned on or illegal..
they did not go quietly into the night..
and their sons & grandsons long for those good ole days they have always heard about..

"they could do poorly ar school, but graduate and go on to a nice union job their uncle or dad got them..and be able to have a decent life"
God forbid that we have strong unions that allow people who don't have the oppurtunity to go to college to still provide a decent life to their children

|
Those just are the facts.. :hi:
MANY MANY young people without the money to go to college did not bust their asses in high school because they knew they would not be going to college..BUT they USED to be able to depend on getting a family-supporting job through a union.. There's nothing "class-baiting" about it.. It's no longer that way, but it sure used to be:)

21. I think its OK for any demographic to be angry right now. The country is seriously messed up. |
|
Now, if we could all just unite rather than be pitted against one another, we could really get something done. The people to blame for higher cost of food, energy and health care as well as joblessness and crumbling education are not the "angry white males" nor are they the "angry black preachers." The people at fault are the "rich white men in power" that Wright was railing on about. We known exactly who was talking about; the Cheneys and Bushes of the world. Those are the people Wright should have specifically called out, rather than making his clumsy, blanket statement that made innocent people feel picked on. I also disapprove of his calling out of Hillary Clinton. Same thing in her case: she is not the enemy.
I'm an angry half latina half white lesbian woman and, no matter how low the discourse on the blogs, DU and the media stoops, I will try very hard to remember that the "rich white men" at the top would like nothing more than to see us at each others' throats. It takes the focus off the guilty parties as they shuffle more of the country's men and women off to war, throw away more of our hard earned tax dollars and pocket billions.

24. Because the "Angry Black Man" is portrayed as scary, mean, nasty, |
|
.
The double standard for blacks and whites in this country is sickening. I personally found nothing wrong with what Rev. Wright said. Hell, if I were black, I'd be pissed off too at how my people have been treated for many, many, many years. I'm white, and I'm pissed off.
People like Hagee could get on TV and do something really nasty and a lot of people wouldn't blink. Rev. Wright points out the injustices that have been done to the blacks in this country, all of which are true, and he is vilified.

28. Watch a few episodes of Law & Order |
|
The crime set ups follow stereotypes. You will see that the scary mean criminals are dark and angry. If a white person does happen to commit a violent crime there is usually some justification. Or, it is a white collar crime. There have been rare deviations from this formula. Television does polling to see what is going to sit well with audiences. Apparently, the stereotype formula works.

But right now just about every other group gets pretty sick of white males complaining about anything. The truth is that every group experiences discrimination at some time- but they tend to experience it later in life so they are shocked by it. So they whine louder and it sounds pathetic.
