The Political Obituary of Hillary Clinton |
|
MARCH 5, 2008
Hillary Clinton has died politically. Instead of bowing out gracefully, like most every other politician has historically done, she chose to continue for her own self-aggrandizement.
Contrary to good sportsmanship, she chose to believe that this time was it. This is when she had to win. This was more important than everything. Than party. Than potentially installing a right wing war mongering war hero.

Seriously, you need to buy a sense of humor. And also be reminded that the vitriol dropped by 90% during your "boycott."

6. that's how most folks running for office feel, actually |
|
why should someone with that many delegates bow out?
I don't know that either candidate will hand McCain a victory.

19. No, it isn't. Most know that if they don't bow out gracefully, their career is over. |
|
The party depends on its candidates being adults who know how to count. It depends on candidates who know when they are beaten, and who graciously get out and get behind the nominee.
What Hillary has done is in derogation of that duty. She has made this process about her refusal to accept defeat, her insistence that she can steal it with the superdelegates, and her lobbing attacks at Obama, our certain nominee, while lauding our opponent, Republican McCain.
Most folks running for office in the Democratic party know that if they ever want to run again, they'd better not try to take the party down in the general election by engaging in the kind of party defeating antics Hillary Clinton has engaged.

8. Well gee, I guess it is alright for members to call another member |
|
vile, lewd and crude names and call another candidate names one would not use in front of their own mother, but a member can get tossed because their are enough of the other candidate members to complain and get someone tossed. Is this how this forum is now working?

20. She's only as powerful as her assignments, which are certain to change. |
|
Given her misconduct in this nomination process, her lauding of McCain and attacks on our eventual nominee, she will probably be given new assignments and stripped of any real power in the new congress. She's earned a demotion, and she's never been an important member of congress. She's one vote, which she owes to New York. Given her misconduct in this election, she'll be lucky to run next time without drawing significant opposition in her next primary run.

wait until his first State of the Union speech?
You know how like during those morning News shows (Today Show, GMA etc.) and the camera pans the ankers. Behind the anker desk, outside the winder, in the snow someone is always waving or holding up signs? "I won Guam...I won Guam" "Send money...this is my Administration"
:sarcasm:

15. No other candidate in American history, with as many delegates as Hillary has, |
|
and with 49% of the vote, has EVER dropped out. Obama hasn't reached the required delegate threshold yet and until he does it is ridiculous to say that she has to leave the race or is graceless for not doing so. There is no precedent in American history for the shouts for her to drop out of the race with her opponent so far from receiving the needed delegates to clinch the nomination. No previous candidate would have considered doing so or been asked to do so.

17. And this nastiness is why so many Hillary supporters, on and off the net, are having trouble |
|
committing to Obama. But most of his supporters (with some exceptions, to be fair) don't care. They feel the same sense of entitlement to the presidency that they claim she feels. And Obama doesn't see a problem here--he's "pretty sure he's going to get her voters."
I wouldn't count on that Barack.

26. Neither would I if I were them after the response we got in PA |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 09:10 AM by Beacool
from many people when we went canvassing this past weekend. To quite a few people, it was either Hillary or McCain. In other words, if Hillary didn't get the nomination they would rather vote for McCain than Obama. We sent over 50 groups (we send them in pairs for safety reasons) and then compared results when they returned a few hours later. They had all received a percentage of similar responses. Obviously not from the majority, but enough to make a difference if they indeed would vote for McCain in November.

22. Because, like him or not, he's not a 70 year old sack'a'shit. |

There are plenty of irrational Hillary supporters out there, I think I've talked to almost all of them, but it makes more sense to judge the candidate by what they say or do than by what some random asshole says. I don't think I'll ever hold her hand and skip through a garden, and I am turned off by some of the things she has said, but in 8 years, I don't want to have to worry about there being a 7-2 conservative edge in SCOTUS, nor do I want to be drafted to fight in Iran. At least with McSame we get the economic relief we've been waiting for, stem cell research will be properly funded, countries will like us again, and gas prices will drop back down.
I'd feel a lot safer with Dickhead McGee, D-Ohio, in office right now than J-Mac. You can vote for whomever you want, but at least think about the consequences of your actions.

24. But Obama has publicly said that Hillary has every right to continue her campaign. |

Your second paragraph makes it sound like Hillary is preparing to "pull a Lieberman" and run as an independent candidate against the Democratic nominee for President. Something that Hillary Clinton would never consider doing. SHAME ON YOU for suggesting it! :P

I wouldn't drop out either yet. Huckabee didn't until McCain secured the # of delegates needed to win the nomination. It just took McCain a lot faster to get there.
