White Fright is a Canard: a little anecdote
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 07:01 AM by crankychatter
I was sitting in the waiting room of a V.A. Clinic in rural Kansas (65% Republican 100% Christian).

There was a fluff piece on the Christian Television station of Obama bowling gutter balls.

I said "If he keeps letting them win, they're liable to start voting for him."

The people smiled but one lady was a bit shaken and said "That would be very scary," probably thinking he's a Muslim (the churches have been circulating that one/OR afraid of the propoganda regarding Rev. Wight... I don't know) I just smiled at her.

After a short, awkward silence, another gentleman said "He bowls about like I DO." All the folks laughed and watched the set with happiness on their faces. I think there's just something about a guy that doesn't mind looking human. It's so rare to see one positive thing about Obama around here. I saw something in their faces.

I think it was HOPE.

1. Pet peeve of mine . . .
I absolutely hate it when anyone makes assumptions about what another person thinks!

one lady was a bit shaken and said "That would be very scary," probably thinking he's a Muslim.

Why do you assume she was scared because of the Muslim myth? Maybe she thought it was scary because of taxes. Or because of Supreme Court appointees. Or inexperience. Or Rev. Wright. Or Michelle. Or . . .

Just because someone disagrees with you politically does not mean that you know what they are thinking.

4. just out of curiosity
why don't you think she was scared of him because he's a black man? Around here in Arkansas, I've heard the "Muslim" thing, but I see most who oppose Obama using it as a socially acceptable excuse to oppose him--few call out on religious prejudice any more, but many will dismiss racists.

85,and i were new to TN and went yard sale'n, she reads 6 books a week..

we find some books and go over to the people to pay for them, the couple stand up and lean into us.. 10" from our face and stare into our eyes, FOR LIKE 2 MINUTES, with a very concerned look on their face.. they then suspiciously look at us and say.. "what church do you go to.?" mom says Baptist.. i say nothing. they are still staring at us kinda squinting out of one eye.. and reluctantly take our money.

this happened all the time... ALL THE TIME.!!

WE FINALLY FOUND OUT THEY BELIEVE THEY THINK THEY CAN STARE INTO A PERSONS EYES.. AND DETERMINE IF JESUS OR SATAN CONTROLS THEIR LIFE

it is rude, plain F'n rude.. and stupid, REALLY F'n STUPID..F'n IGNORANT

9. I've learned that Repugs that vote for Obama = good...
But, Repugs voting for Clinton = bad.

I would like to see all primary's closed like we have them in Arizona. You must register as one or the other prior to the primary. It saves us any funny business on both sides.

Some here have admitted to voting for Romney and Huck to have them as the nominee instead of McCain. So, it's not much of a stretch to believe that the other side is helping to pick our nominee.

7. Kansas has a Democratic Governor and locally....
People vote their minds, not the party's mind. We have plenty of Democrats.

I do think it's entirely plausible that Obama could take Kansas.

I KNOW that the Dem on Dem primaries have negligible indication of what will happen in the General Election. The Clinton camp's "electoral college" argument is another canard.

8. just out of curiosity...
do the same half dozen people use socks and proxies with multiple accounts to pump up the Race/Gender baiting?

Yes, this would be a direct question to you.

I should tell you that you are not helping the Party... but it clearly doesn't matter to you...

so flame on...

*yawn*
