Democrats will seat Florida's delegation
Democrats will seat Florida's delegation
BY EUN KYUNG KIM • FLORIDA TODAY • April 3, 2008

After months of taking swipes at one another, Florida Democrats and their national party chairman announced Wednesday the state will be represented at the national convention this summer.

"We will absolutely seat the delegation from Florida at the convention. That is in everybody's best interest," Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean said. "All of us are committed to make sure that happens."

Much work remains, however, to determine how those delegates will be allocated, Dean stressed. He said party leaders would be working with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama to reach a solution.

Dean's announcement was greeted with enthusiasm by Democratic delegates in Brevard County, some of whom have been despondent and even angry about the impasse.

If the credentials committee was able to find a way for Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina to have full representation at the convention, then there is no reason they can't do the same for Florida and Michigan. While the rules that were used to cause this whole fiasco were against the principles of the Charter of the Democratic Party of the United States, if they were to be used, they mandate that Iowa, Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire, and South Carolina all be striped of their super delegates and half of their pledged delegates. Discriminatory treatment under the rules was executed and its high time justice be seen and full representation be recognized. This full representation should be recognized now, not after supper delegates have been shifted behind the scenes so that the representation is just a facade to appease voters come November. A public apology to the voters of the states in question by Howard Dean is appropriate. He has often been cast as the Harry Truman of Vermont, so I say its high time he stops passing the buck. Man up Dean, the buck stops with you. You are the captain of the ship, while we may never forget, if you openly admit to your mistakes and make good we may forgive you.
