So you are bitter, aging, ...
Here's a little blip on the screen over at DailyKrap hole. Lovely thoughts from a 20 something, "me and no one else" Obama supporter. It's really too bad that folks like this undo the hard work that a candidate puts into Unity and Hope. I place this here because I believe it embodies the thoughts of certain supporters.

I'm hoping this gentleman finds a way to support his candidate in a constructive manner.

Personally, I look forward to a Clinton presidency where universal healthcare will be a reality, our troops will be brought home, the economy will be put back on course, education will be funded and diplomacy...yes, diplomacy...will be our mission statement.

<snip>
So you are bitter, aging, ...

and feel that women have had it rough. Well they have. But I owe you nothing. Talk to your generation. Talk to your husbands. It's not my generation's fault.

But being bitter, aging, and female do not qualifications to be president make, despite what you or Hillary would like to think. Just being oppressed doesn't give you the sympathy ticket to all the riches in the world.

This isn't Hollywood, this is life, where we have killed over a million in Iraq and the economy is going into the tank and Hillary is taking big dollars from big interests that caused it all.

You're gearing up to be oppressed all over again by one of your own. Don't make the mistake of being that naive.

bitter and aging is a phrase more directed at woman - this country needs some growing up.

18. "The world is about looking out for eachother."
The world could be about that, but it isn't at the moment.

Enlightened individuals are the only place the idea of "looking out for each other" can be found, not in that collective, heterogeneous abstraction called "the world".

There's a lot of bitterness in that post, but as a 40-something, I can understand where it's coming from. I've been around long enough to see this society work a lot better, so I see possibilities in the current system. I know it could go back to a better way of operating, whether it does or not.

But 20-somethings have only seen a society becoming more opportunistic, cheap, and anarchic. It's not a matter of growing up, it's a matter of what the "grown ups" in your life have shown you about what it is to be "grown up". Overall, and from what I've seen, the standard of "grown-up" over the last twenty, thirty years has been markedly less grown up.

The system we have worked for has sold out the environmental and economic future of our children. What do you expect our children to feel when they realize this? Gratitude?

52. The 20-somethings think they don't owe anybody anything?
How about their PARENTS, who put them through college and are still paying on the tuition loans? Or are still putting a roof over their heads, rent-free? Still keeping the groceries in the pantry? Yeah, let's turn the reins over to THEM.

Jesus H. Keerist, what a self-absorbed asshat.

107. I went to college in the 80s, and I had to pay off all of my tuition loans myself.
Thanks to Reagan-zzzzzap! Back in '82, my situation was rare - nearly everyone had help from their parents - now it's the norm.

Not because the parents don't want to pay for college, but because they can't. Another situation where our system betrays the 20-something generation.

Parents care for their children even in social systems that are breaking down - that doesn't determine how strong a society is in and of itself. (contrary to popular propaganda). But more and more parents are spending their time networking rather than relating to their own children. The parents feel they're forced to for economic and political reasons. Another betrayal.

There are self-absorbed 20-somethings, but no more than the number of self-absorbed baby boomers. Considering how they've seen their social system betray both them and their parents, I won't hold a little self-absorption against them.

57. reminds me of when I was a kid
When I was 13 or 14, my preferred company was adults. I loved hanging out with groups of adults and talking, and listening, about politics or about the world in general. Now that I am 46, it's hard to find groups of adults who are not at the junior high level of petty gossip or jealousies about other adults or mean-spirited insults and jokes, and when adults get together they don't talk, they pull out a stupid card game or pictionary or something kid-like and competetive.

108. Same here, 100%.
When I was in junior high I used to look forward to being in my '30s and '40s, because I thought that my peers would grow out of all of the petty adolescent shit that I grew out of. Man, did that ever not happen. I watched them build an entire political game out of that petty adolescent shit and make a lot of money off of it.

I'm considering McCain and this once well behaved yellow dog just might be taking a big fat chunk of the electorate with me, one I think ya'll are going to miss down the road, even though we are invisible.

...

You know the trigger point with me and I suspect boatloads of women like me? Experience. As in, we have it, but it's all slashed up and mixed in with having kids and supporting a husband's career and being shoved into crap jobs and discounted for not being real. There's a tremendous number of us who have been passed over for promotions and forced to pass up opportunities because we were women, because we came to the game too late, because we couldn't pick up stakes and follow our star because our kids and parents needed us where we were.

And if you want to see a middle aged woman jump like a pithed frog, tell her experience, especially a middle aged woman's set of unconventional experiences that she fought like a dog to pull together doesn't count and doesn't matter as much as youth and energy.

22. I Love The Response
I may be getting older but I define me, not anyone else. I remember the fights and I grew up in the Midwest when it was ok to go to college but when you married you stayed home and let the man take care of you. I fought for rights then. I always get furious when I read the you are old, get out of the way posts and then before I write something I will regret I remember thinking the same way. We thought our parents had bungled everything. I also take time to pat myself on the back that a lot of young women today don't realize how bad it was for women thirty-forty years ago. The young may have more energy but I am proud of my experience.

If these aging Hillarybots vote for McCrazy McCain out of spite, they will get everything they deserve -- as their grandkids are shipped out to be blown up in Iraq, as their granddaughters die of botched back-alley abortions, as their Social Security and Medicare benefits disappear, as they're forced to scrap for shit jobs just to keep food on the table, or they line up in free clinics for hours to see a doctor.

24. I think grantcart nailed it last night.
There are people on this board that will find any snippet of anti-Hillary sentiment on the net, and post it here in order to keep the hostility going.

It's true. They post the worst stuff they can find and get all huffy about it, and all the other Clinton supporters fall in line and keep the 'poutrage' (forgot who coined that, but it's perfect) at as high a level as they can sustain.

Why, I can't tell you. Maybe it makes them feel like they still have a chance, that if they piss people off enough, voters will gravitate back to their candidate. That the concept makes no sense at all is not a factor to them. It's all about the poutrage.

If it seems like the Hillary supporters are much worse, I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact that there are far fewer of them than Obama supporters on here, thus they might feel the need to scream louder in order to be heard. I'm sure it would be exactly the same way if the tables were turned.

I found many, many hits on "affirmative action candidate"

All but one were like yours; from outraged Obama supporters. The last was the title of an editorial reposted from elsewhere.

There was one deleted post in a locked thread started by an annoyed Obama supporter that, based on the context of the seven replies could have been inferred to have said that.

Your outrage appears to be based on one, now deleted, post.

20. Sigh. In real life-Kentucky, I've heard this, and racism, and
the stupid Muslim stuff, and the stupid Clintons murder people thing, and
variations on all of them. What I don't hear, so far, is any fervent support for McCain. It's an ugly, confusing period. More and more,
I'm concerned about this GE producing a weak president, whoever takes it.

Sigh again.

89. Pleeze. You posted this little snippet full-well knowing two things:
1. People were going to read it with the notion that you'd just browsed over there today and ran across this commentary, the notion being that "wow, just took one look over there and look what I found!" The intent being to make it appear as if that kind of commentary were common on that site.

2. And further that, assuming that implication was an honest one (which it wasn't), it would diminish their overall opinion of said site and its participants.

It really is a form of smarmy dishonesty that HRC boosters have honed to perfection. Your candidate would be proud.

36. OP this is sad this person would post such a thing
The way I interpret it and what it reflects is this person has no respect for older, baby boomer people. Just her statements alone are brought about out of emotions and not out of critical thinking. Obama brings his base and the fringe about through being an inspirational speaker. Many people get drawn into a person that has the gift of speech.

37. We needn't look to any other sites for comments which suggest a big problem.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS221US221&q=%22lying+bitch%22+hillary+site%3Ademocraticunderground.com&btnG=Search

The above is a search on this site.

Something I find intriguing is that many of the same posters who argue that it is unreasonable to react negatively to comments by some Obama supporters sing quite a different tune about the culpability of men (in general) to stop sexism among other men. Or whites (in general) to stop racism among other whites.

We do have some responsibility to police our own, and because of the disproportionate Obama support here, the burden falls more heavily on the Obama supporters.

That said, I have seen a great many Obama supporters doing exactly that of late, and their efforts do not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

We have two good candidates, and their supporters are our fellow democrats.

What I don't understand is why would you bring that over here? I don't think it proves anything and certainly does nothing for either candidate, nor does it speak to the issues. Furthermore, it's not like anyone here actually wrote that nonsense. It's from another website. In fact, it's from an opinion driven website. Maybe I'm wrong, but I find that bothersome.

70. No surprise. How has American society treated these kids over the past 25 years?
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 01:28 PM by depakid
Zero tolerance. Draconian criminal laws. Slashing school funding and programs. Massive higher education debt. A plethora of hate radio and crass advertisments. Unaffordable health care. Environmental degradation. Unaccountable corruption. Falling wages. To name just a few.

How do you expect that many- maybe most will feel.

Charitable?

Tell you what, I wouldn't want to be getting into my 70's on up in the US in the next decade or two, as America's unsustainable "way of life" meets the economic realities of resource depletion.

emotionally pampered in history. It's a horrible combination. You have grade inflation, social promotion, MY CHILD HAS GOOD PENMANSHIP bumper stickers. We have a child fetish that, of course, also despises and distrusts children, that's where the draconian laws come in. Gotta kill 'em to save 'em.

The solidarity that ordinary women feel with the uber-rich and corporate Clinton is bound to prove false in the end. She'll fight for her own--but that isn't you, unless you are in the top tier of professional success and your only concern in life is breaking the glass ceiling.

111. While the cheap shots are not productive, the truth is that Team Hillary, running out of arguments
to support their candidate, (having burned, for instance, through "inevitability", which was pretty much all the early campaign was based on) increasingly in recent weeks have turned to fear mongering as well as this sort of pissed-off "it's our turn" mentality, with the expectation that liberal boomer women would ignore, for instance, Hillary's IWR vote and focus instead on her age and double X Chromosomes.

I've seen thread and post and thread and post here from boomers just viciously belittling younger voters, as well as saying deeply relevant things like "your generation controls fashion and music, can't you leave us politics?" :eyes:

I do believe that some peoples' visceral dislike of Obama is simply that, by contrast, he makes them feel OLD.
