Moral of the story "Thorns trump pearls every time" Just ask Randi Rhodes.
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 12:25 PM by Ninga
Listening to Randi Roads was a process of sifting.

Kinda like mining for gold. You know. Sifting through dirt and sand to find the nuggets.

For those times that she did her research, had documentation, and a terrific memory.....she was on target and worth listening to.

Otherwise she demeaned callers that was uncalled for, and in a vicious way that made me wonder why.

It is a classic case of a huge ego and believing she was untouchable that explains her lack of judgment that has gotten her suspended.

She now belongs to the same "bad judgment" club many famous names and well known pols have joined.

How fortunate she is to have such talent and quick wit, and the double edged sword of very bad judgment.

Why would a smart person do or say what she did and not think they were above reproach?

By the way, if she stays or goes is not my issue, nor free speech which I believe trumps all.

She should have been smart enough to know that the big boss is a Clinton supporter, and he can call it like he sees it.

So once again dear posters, it's not about how smart a person is, it's about their judgment.

The end.

1. It's like sifting for gold in a pile of shit.
At some point you stand up and you realize, "Hey, I'm standing in shit! Hell, I'm covered in shit. It smells really bad." And suddenly the gold doesn't seem so important any more.

4. Look, my take on Randi is that she could be right on the target. I would tune in, and if I didn't
like what I heard I turned her off. Over time I listened to her less and less.

Say what you will about her, she was not all bad.

7. So, if you know that, and I know that, why didn't Randi. Like him or not, why didn't
Randi see the hand writing on the wall.

Ego. A big one.

10. who knows
maybe she's getting sick and tired of working with complete incompetents above her AT Air America and maybe she actually WANTS out. She's moving back down here a mile from where I am and I know WJNO will gladly take her back in a heartbeat and all of you Clintoncrats won't have to listen to her and the REST of us REAL democrats can still access her streaming live, and listen to her continue to fight for the things that TRUE dems will always believe in.

I've heard her yell at too many callers who were liberals, but disagreed with her. She's just too rude for me.

I found Randi's language offensive, misogynistic and demeaning. I don't think her comments were helpful to either Obama, Clinton, or our party. But I'm still voting for Obama. She earned her suspension.

29. My post was about a smart and funny person using horrible judgment. This is about
Randi using bad judgment in expressing her opinions, and how big ego's bring down smart people.

I think it is OK that she was suspended. I would have been surprised if she wasn't. It was the right thing to do.

13. Mark Green is a Hill shill
but he's also the guy who saved that network from going under.

so knowing who signs her paycheck, the Mad Queen is also a dummy. She's worked in radio long enough to know that you don't go to a station sponsored event and say the shit she did.

Obama supporter here, also used to work in radio. Randi threw herself under the bus.

20. He is running a radio station.
Nothing matters to him but ratings.

Randi was killing her own ratings by alienating half (or more?) of their audience. It's as simple as that.

The whole left wing talk world did seem a little more Clinton friendly to me this morning. Now I know why! (My guess is that all the left wing talkers are being told to keep their eye on the ball now: Dems vs. McCain.)

32. Did you listen to that interview Clinton gave Limbaugh. It Rocked!!!
It took real courage for him to do Limbaugh's show. He was funny and articulate. Clinton even told a few racist jokes...(shhhhh don't tell anyone.) It was classic!!! Then they talked about their respective drug use. Clinton admitted that he liked the Oxy a little bit too. Rush likes marijuana brownies. They even hugged for the benefit of Ditto-cam viewers! Then you woke up...

Of course, back here in the real world....

CLINTON DID NOT GO ON RUSH LIMBAUGH'S SHOW - GTTYFH

It was an audio patch job making it appear as if Rush was asking him questions.

Any Questions?

3. It is a tough medium
and if you play close to the edge, you will invariably cross it.

Randi needs more staff, and needs to work with them.
That, I think would give her the ability to work in her best quadrant consistently.

6. Why would a smart person do or say what she did and not think they were above reproach?
She has always been a radio personality who said what was on her mind.

Thats what makes her Randi Rhodes instead of a nobody working on radio in Peoria.

Why anyone should get upset that she is being the same person they always listened to (before she got fed up with Hillary's antics) seems more like the kind of censorship we always derided the GOP for doing.

8. Ov vey! Not my point at all. This is not about Randi's radio gig style, it is about
her crossing a line her boss found offensive.

It's not about how Randi dissed Hillary......she has been doing that a lot on her program.

It is about the over the top horrible language Randi used to characterize Hillary. Which some could say, was over the top.

15. her crossing a line her boss found offensive.
Her boss who is a known Clinton supporter.

Look, if you hired Howard Stern knowing that his act was lewd and obnoxious why would you get upset if he WAS lewd and obnoxious?

Same with Randi, AA knowinly hired her knowing what her act was.

Its a little two faced now to claim there was some mythical line she crossed just because the boss is a fan of the person she was railing against.

23. I understand and agree with you. But her boss is her boss, and he probably was waiting
in the wings for Randi to mess up.

And guess what she did. Randi can be lewd and obnoxious as long as it is about someone her boss is not supporting for president.

He owns the basketball.

9. You're right, Ninga
When Randi does her research on an issue or a person, she is so right on. So right on, it's almost scary.

But, when she doesn't, or when she falls into the trap of thinking she's untouchable, she completely misses the mark.

Sometimes she gets an idea in her head, and when a caller challenges her, she can be quite vicious. I've heard those calls, and have found myself saying, "What the HELL are you talking about Randi?" She says the calling is saying something that they aren't saying at all.

Overall, I like listening to her, and I hope that she takes the time she's on suspension to deflate her ego a bit, and realize that she isn't always right, and that other people have legitimate opinions/information to convey.

As to what she said in San Francisco, yes, it WAS over the line. I may not be a big fan of Hilary Clinton, but talking about her and Ferraro the way she did was flat out wrong.

19. It would be a perfect world if all of us mortals could learn from the mistakes others
make.

Hopefully, people will think about this not in a defensive way, but in an analytical way.

I hope you are right, and that she is able to recover. My concern is that when she backs herself into a corner she beomes "absolutist" and righteous on her high horse.

I wonder how this will play out.

Randi has a lot of smarts, but she also has a lot of ego, and that ego just got her smacked down by AAR.

16. Very well said
I so agree with your thoughts and appreciate that you posted. Her treatment of callers troubled me. I suppose that I'm spoiled by Thom Hartmann's smooth teaching style.

If anything comes of this, I do hope that the AAR bigwigs come to appreciate Sam Seder as a daily host - even if he does have some speech flaws.

22. I keep hearing anti-Hillary people like Randi Rhodes
go on and on about how "betrayed" they feel that Hillary did an interview with Scaife's newspaper.Randi (who can go on and on - her excuse is maybe somebody missed it the first 30 times she mentioned it) had a cow Monday because after all the years of love she's given to the Clintons, now she fells all stabbed in the back that Hillary wants to win Pennsylvania so she sat down with some rat bastards. Hearing Randi doing Monica jokes and blow job jokes makes me sick. So after about 100 days of the most horrible personalize verbal abuse I've ever heard, you'd think, after the beating Hillary has taken from her own party and AAR and the others, the least Hillary could do is consider Randi Rhodes's feelings when trying to win a tough election.( yep, got to consider her feelings and fat ass ed shultz's)

27. I stopped listening to Randi long before the
primaries.

I heard several times people call in, say how great the show was and how much they loved her and then gently disagree with something she had said. Then she would immediately proceed to insult, berate and scream at them. I knew this was the kind of person I didn't want to waste my time listening to.
