The Carter Center confirmed to CNN the newspaper did quote Carter accurately.

The smart move would be to save his choice and whatever weight he carried for some moment down the line- but then, Carter wasn't known for his strategic acumen. Sad, because he's a good man.

We were reluctant to post on this earlier without official confirmation, but now we have it: A spokesperson for Jimmy Carter confirms that he made some very kind remarks about Barack Obama, and all but announced his support for the Illinois Senator.

Carter was asked about the primaries at a press conference during his tour of Nigeria, picked up by the Nigerian paper This Day, and here's what he said:

"We are very interested in the primaries. Don’t forget that Obama won in my state of Georgia. My town which is home to 625 people is for Obama, my children and their spouses are pro-Obama.
